The Old Folks Home

That is 4 chamois colored Appenzeller Spitzhauben chicks, and one that I think was supposed to be a silver crossed to chamois? But its color is wild! Coolest thing ever!

I might even end up with a couple more chicks... Give me two days and I will tell ya.

Can't tell ya how happy I am, I have been so very wanting this color, I think it is the prettiest color to ever sit on a chicken.

Here is a photo from the internet, so you all know why I am drooling:
Pass the drool bucket - those are absolutely STUNNING! Can't wait to see how your babies come along.

Wow, they are so gorgeous I think I'm going to plotz. I never knew they came in different colors.
Me either - I've been becoming increasingly intrigued with them as a breed and toying with the idea of "someday" - I like that they have a head dress that isn't as extreme as a polish, etc - just enough to be unique and have character but not overpowering.
I get, ON OCCASION, 2 eggs from one girl. Mostly it is one laid from the roost overnight, then another later the next day. Then USUALLY a day off. Anyone that says they have hens that lay 2 eggs a day pretty much every day, is smoking something.

Absolutely - the key phrase being on occasion as opposed to the claim that it is happening every day, over and over.
We have gators around here, but the biggest ones that I am aware of are only 10 - 12 feet long.

"only" 10-12 feet she says......

We have black widows, brown recluse and rattlesnakes here. If you go up to the mountains there are mountain lions and black bears. No Grizzly bears yet but the want them back here!

We do not have river monsters--except for Sturgeon. Those are caught illegally for caviar sadly. The last time it was a Russian Gang.

When I retire I will make sure that I do not move to a place with Monsters like that.

Most of gators here are of more moderate size, of course, but there are enough large ones to know that they certainly get that big. There is one that has lived at Orton Plantation for maybe 50 years. They were guestimating that he was 10 feet long, but nobody was about to walk up and put a tape on him to find out . . . . so somebody had the bright idea to drive a couple of wooden stakes into the ground 10 feet apart in one of the spots where he likes to haul out and bask. Conveniently, he parked himself pretty much exactly between them - yup, he's 10 feet long!

Sounds like he appreciated someone marking out a reserved spot for him, lol

@ronott1 Atlantic Sturgeon are making a comeback in the 315 mile long Hudson river here in NY, highest number of juvenile sturgeon in ten yrs. They are seeing a steady increase in population. There is a coast wide 40 yr moratorium on fishing them, to protect two generations of them. They don't begin to spawn before 10-20 yrs of age.
Looks like the prehistoric ginormous fish has a chance.

That is good news!

I have not heard about how the Sturgeon are doing here after the drought.

Awesome about the sturgeon they are really cool fish.

And yes about Spitz and their head feathers. I do not like the fact that most Polish are blind.. Just sheesh. I am way too practical for that... I want a productive chicken that looks cool, and doesn't need coddling.
