Black Australorp... any rooster, even a bantam, can cause serious injury and/or maiming once it turns mean though... hence the quick dispatch of aggressive roosters is best approach...
Even a little bantam? We'll have to choose our rooster carefully then I guess.
My gran used to keep geese, it made visiting her quite fun... I don't think I've ever been more terrified than I was when I was walking up her driveway.

Then one christmas they just disappeared. Hmmmm..

Yes, even a bantam... maybe even especially a bantam... they're more tenacious and have a bigger 'attitude'...

lol... Christmas Goose...

I'm 6'1" 220lbs and not fat. I was knocked out of my flip flops into the deep litter poo by a welsummer once. Now bare foot wearing shorts, blood runnin down my legs didn't want to kick him, only weapon I had was a flip flop, which I repeatedly smacked him with (he was winning) until I could escape the coop...
Complete surprise to me.
I really like these docile jersey giant roosters.

Jeeze louise... I HATE that they limit how many thumbs ups you can give :-(

@BYC Support Can we PLEASE revisit the "thumbs up" protocol? Press a request to do so on the powers that be? I completely understand limiting to one per 200 posts (undetermined #) for newcomers, but gosh... when a person has been here for several years, has a couple thousand posts, at least a few thumbs ups received, and only a couple minor wrist slaps, can't you UP the number allowed? I don't post on but a couple of threads, and that not too often. But there are a LOT of other posts/posters on these threads who deserve a thumbs up that I'm restricted from giving them. I don't think I'm asking that much... Thank you for your consideration of this rather important (to me and future thumbs up recipients) matter!

Love the rhino-chicken! I neither like/dislike roos... to me a chicken is a chicken. Not scared of them either, I try to make sure they are scared of me... the roos anyways. If that doesn't work, then the outcome will be the same as it was for the BA roo. Geese can be downright scary! when they hit you with those wings it's like being hit with a bat! And they can be mean! And they weigh a lot more than the typical chicken. Turkeys can do some serious damage too.

OK, picturing batting practice using a flip flop and a chicken...

even better; while sitting in a pile of litter & poop and crab scooting backwards through it all wearing just shorts.

Worth a video I'd say! Reenactment?

I think I remember that... didn't he lose his head somehow shortly thereafter? :gig

Wow, just like tiny dogs, gotta make up for their size somehow I guess.

Any breeds you recommend?

Australorps are usually a decent choice, you have to understand there are exceptions to every rule... and not every chicken is the same just like people... if you were in the US, I would recommend Ameraucanas... since not, maybe Araucanas? I like the UK ones... :)

Not here yet, but Happy Independence Day to all. Hope everyone has great plans for the weekend. The 2 grocery chains here have rib eyes on sale (value pack, limit 2) so I picked up my 2 and selected out the one steak for tonight's dinner. Also splurged on some corn on the cob... 6 for a buck, I bought 3. Gonna cook 2 to have with the steak. Gonna eat well tonight! Might even have a little chocolate ice cream left in the freezer for dessert. Hmmm could this be a contributing factor to why I'm 3-4" shorter than Beercan and out weigh him (by more than I care to admit)? Gravity sucks.

Araucanians are very pretty. I actually found a couple of eBay listings for ayam cemani hatching eggs... Pretty expensive though..
We already know we're getting ex-bat's, then once they're settled and have grown back all their feathers we would like to get a rooster. So nothing stopping us from hatching one.

I love our Ayam Cemanis, but they are definitely not known for their egg laying abilities, lol... and personally, with the game type personality I wouldn't put them in a bigger mixed flock... maybe a hen or 2, but their flock dynamics seem very different... neat but different...
