The Old Folks Home

Batch of chickens I had three-four yrs ago, still have some, were the dumbest ever. I decided to chase them out of the coop, they didn't go down the nice wide path I had snowblowed to the grass. They freaked out and flew out into the three feet deep snow in all different directions...
I left them there till I got done shoveling off part of our roof. They never moved or made a peep, I figured their legs were going to freeze. I had to trudge through the snow and pick up each one of the motionless birds that never let me touch them before and carry each one back...
Hung a big cabbage in their coop that winter, three weeks later I took it down, then they decided to eat it. Hung up they avoided it like it was some sort of monster.

:lau

Reminds me of the time my then toddler/2 year old was running away from me across the snow crust... heading to a cliff at the base of which was a not completely frozen over stream...

And there I am huffing and puffing, working up a sweat, trying to catch up to the monster, my first son....my pride and joy... about to try his best to kill himself... while I watch.....

Every one of my steps... right through the snow crust and into three feet of snow... up to my crotch....

What did you say @Beer can? The worst stuff about your own kids are all of your own faults. Yep. :old

but as a parent, scary too!

Regardless of whether it's the hen's fault or not, when mine start looking scruffy, I pen the rooster(s) for a little while. It works. I also pen them during molt. The hen's feathers are strong enough they can go quite some time before they have to be separated, but eventually I do have to separate them. I've found that if I don't wait until they are bare backed, but only scruffy, the separation time is much shorter.

@Bunnylady I hope everyone that ticketed the car, got disciplined for negligence, since I don't guess they can get disciplined for stupidity. How nice of them to dismiss the fines for the tickets (sarcasm) (eye roll).

I got some oregano oil today, and have begun taking it. I hope it does me some good.

Good gosh @Bunnylady and @getaclue I can't imagine the complete incompetence of a ticketing officer to not even notice there's a person sitting in the vehicle they are ticketing... and when that person doesn't react in some manner... just continue. Unbelievable. Mighty considerate of the city to not enforce the tickets... Amazing. Lets add insult to injury and maybe bill the family for body removal and bio-hazard cleanup of a public space.

I can just picture them calling the EPA, and fining the family for air pollution.

Oh, come on., Wisher, you know that's not what I meant.

Personally, that the person was actually still in the car would not have been my first thought, and I'd have been shocked and horrified to discover that they were. A car sitting in a parking lot at a mall or an airport I could see, but this car was sitting at a metered space on a pretty busy road - do people often abandon cars in places like that? Not the first day, and probably not the second, but certainly by the third day, I'd have thought someone would have noticed the citations from the previous couple of days and thought, "hey, something's up. This car has been sitting here for 3 days. Maybe it's been stolen and not reported for some reason; maybe the owner became ill/confused and doesn't remember that they left it here, but this isn't right," and at least reported it (I believe that in some municipalities, the "meter maids" are a separate entity, and even wear different uniforms from the "real cops.") Around here, the bright orange "tow it" stickers often show up within a matter of hours on some of our roads; to think that not only one, but apparently several people were so disinterested that they just stuck another citation under the wiper and drove on is disappointing, to say the least.
