The Old Folks Home

Yup all's well with Elsa and the babies. I bought a banty mix once at a TSC meet for 50 cents. She was one of my favorites until a fox ate her one day while I was outside with them. She was a grade A cyclical broody and a great mom. She never once raised chicks, though. She was my prime raiser of ducklings and turkeys. It was fun to watch her try to squish week old ducklings under her (we do the giant meat pekins).
I love my big pekins!

He's a big boy, and the calmest rooster I've ever had. Notice the 5/8" garden hose behind him, his legs are as big round. Not sure his weight anymore, my digital scale only goes to 13lbs.
The pullets I hatched from him were 10lbs by nine months, bigger than the moms.
Gorgeous guy! :love
Yep I learned how to trim Goat feet off youtube.... funny thing is when i read the credits they were local people.... Like about ten miles from me.

You must be a visual learner.... I am big time... let me watch it a hunnert times and I have only to lock it into physical memory....

I learned how to draw with charcoal off PBS... John Gnagy was his name

I love You tube for learning things. It's where I learned all the nail art I do. And some of the painting techniques. Crap...I pretty much learn most stuff from there. CHEER.gif
The TSC 'silkies' I had never went broody. Just let a TSC silkie/giant cross set on eggs, hoping for some more fm naked necks. She went broody all winter, figured I'd try her out and leave eggs, see if she went broody again, yup, ... hatched one....and looks like it's from pure NN hen that was laying eggs with her. I'll try her again sometime and see what happens.
My dad's best broody when I was a kid was a Japanese bantam, hatched out turkey eggs once Lol!!
The pair of guineas I had when I was a kid went broody right away and raised 9 keets. These guineas have never set. The gentleman where I got them from has bred them for years...but he incubates. The Silky crosses, Oegb and crosses between the two are incredibly broody. I can't leave eggs in the nests at all. 1-2 days with eggs and all the nests are full of broodies. :he I've had a couple of EEs set, but that's it.
Your welcome clue.

Deb I found a lady that showed a method of making short's so easy that a 7 year old could do it. I did have to watch it a few times and pause it and go look and then got it done. But my dyslexia makes me do things backwards. So I am a bit challenged in that area. But the mechanics of it makes it a bit easier for me now.

Beer and Scg my broody BO were from my first chickens I ever bought and they were from a Hatchery and they were great moms. But none of my other hens ever did go broody from that bunch.

I would like to ask for your thoughts and prayers for my DD#1 she is in ICU and it looks like her kidneys and liver are nearly shot. They were talking about putting her on dialysis last night. She also has a broken hand and wrist and other injuries from her husband. The cops took her to the hospital yesterday at first they put her in the psych ward then had to transfer her into ICU.
Thanks Diva and Al and everyone so much.
Yes Al she does have kids but they are all grown now.
Her 2 daughter came home and heard what was going on and called the police.
She was admitted to the psych ward and then moved to ICU.
Baker acted means she cannot leave she is a danger to herself.
She tried to commit suicide again she feels it's the only way she will truly be able to be rid of her husband.
It's beyond breaking my heart. All of us are so scared for her. The hospital did alert security that if her dh showed up to arrest him.
I'm so sorry. :hugs That's terrible!
Hoping for the best outcome for your daughter and your family. :hugs

no we spent the day at the auction getting rid of 3 cockerels and old feeders then came home friend brought me 7 peeps she had hatched for me and picked up a frizzle she thought she wanted gone but changed her mind.... so BF decided to move the cockerel coop to a better location bigger yard next to the hens yard made a whole in garden yard the piece the boys get had 3x4 field fence so we used that to shore the garden yard putting 1 inch chicken wire for the cockerel yard

For those who take naproxen....is it better than say, Robax platinum...which is Ibuprofen and Methocarbamol? I'm curious. :) I try to take the least amount I can get by with...which is still take more than I'd like to be taking.

My thoughts are; the ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation around the nerves in the spine and the methocarbamol to relax the muscles from the lower back down to my toes since the muscles are always tight and bunched because they're not getting the correct messages from the nerves. What does Naproxen do?

A good productive day. Those are nice!:yesss: How's the chicks?

Naproxin is an NSAID... It reduces inflamation.... SGC may be able to explain this better.

I take Alieve (naproxin) in the morning and Tylenol when I am in worse pain. You can take the two together because they do different things and effect different parts of your body.

Motrin or Ibuprophin are also NSAIDs they just work a little lower key. you have to take more of it throughout the day.

YOu can take as many as three Alieve in the day spaced out. They last twelve houirs. And Tylenol according to the directions. I had an ER nurse tell me this when I was in terrible pain from a case of Trench mouth.

deb "Whos up to take more Nyquil and some extra Tylenol. Dang cold."

When I blew my back out yrs ago, sciatic nerve, I never went to a doc. I was taking 1200mg acetaminophen or ibuprofen sometimes every four hrs when i was at my worst, couldn't even stand up. I don't like taking any drugs and knew it wasn't good. Those two knocked the pain out but for only about four hrs, I'd even wake up at night and take them.
When I tried naproxen sodium (aleve) it did not take the pain completely away like the others, but it dulled it down to a comfortable level. And best part, only one in the morning and one at night. Just like the commercial says 'one a day lasts all day' think the stuff probably saved my liber
That was around 15yrs ago and was months of hell. Have not had any troubles with my back ever again.
