We started off with Jeff and Amanda, because those were hubby's favorite DJ's. I had to explain to him that Jeff was also a girl. LOL! They were pure Rhode Island Reds that came with my son's senior portraits. (Yes, it's a crazy story.)
Then came Trisha, (after his favorite country singer, Trisha Yearwood.) Whittie, (After one of the Bowery Boys.) and Hawkeye. (She has the same markings as a hawk, sorry not MASH) They were young Leghorn pullets dropped off at my front door. (Kind of like in the old movies, where a mom drops off a baby in a basket.)
George of the Jungle didn't last long, because he beat Trisha, Whittie, and Hawkeye up. We had to put him in with Jeff and Amanda. Amanda held him down, while Jeff pulled his tail feathers out.
After Jeff and Amanda passed due to a violent racoon attack, we were blessed with 2 Rhode Island Reds and 1 beautiful Black Star. They became the NBA...Natalie, Braveheart, and Abby.
Years later, we still have Hawkeye (She even survived a neighbor's dog attack.) and Abby. The rest have passed, but we got 8 more Black Stars/Sex linked hens. They are Ethel, (As in Ethel Mertz from I Love Lucy.) Ellie Mae, (Beverly Hillbillies) Myrtle, (Lio & Stich) Xiao Hey, (Meaning little one.) and Queenie. (Named by my AI assistant by accident, because she's broody.) I still have to come up with some more names.
