The Old Folks Home

Deb she is absolutely gorgeous. What a beautiful little soul. I'm a firm believer that animals find us, we don't find them. We have what they need and they have what we need.

Bless you for giving her a furever home.
I love em all and when they come to live with me the only reason they move on is its better for them... happens very very rarely but it has happened.

My son is the same way

We woould live in our car if it ment no one would allow us to rent with a dog....

I cannot believe the reasons people throw away their animals... so sad...

SGC your talent never fails to amaze me. How do you find the time? I know what your on the job hours are like and can imagine that like the rest of us your spend a lot of time working with your flock. Do you sleep?:caf

Wickedchicken6 I would guess that your kitty is suffering from kidney failure. If it was diabetes (we have a diabetic kitty) she would be eatting like a horse yet loosing weight as well as drinking a lot of water and peeing like a race horse. I'm so sorry. Our diabetic boy is about 16-17 years old now. We were able to get him off insulin for the time being by switching him to a zero carb cat food. It's expensive as all get out but we figure it's averaging out to what we were spending monthly on insulin and testing supplies. Every day we have with our Johnny Cash is a cherished day for us. I well understand how you are feeling right now.:hugs

I can't begin to say how much I appreciate everyone's kind words. With all my heart I hope that if you have never had this touch your flock that it never does. If it has I'm sure you join in my heart felt hope for at least a working vaccine that will prevent spread of this heartbreaking disease. I love my birds. Tonight I separated 5 of the young cockerels from the flock and put them in the rooster pen. I hate putting them in with birds that are showing signs of the disease but they are all exposed and they are getting pretty insistent with the girls which is causing them stress and may have contributed to my hen'd demise today. Breeding stress has figured heavily with my flock. I imagine there will be birds that make the 2nd cut as I have a few youngsters who haven't discovered what girls are yet. One day at a time. Hoping for the best and expecting the worse.
I started writing this last night, but fell asleep before I got done. I LOVE the saving draft feature...lol

Thank you. :hugs I called it yesterday for kitty.
It was a visible turning point. She showed signs of discomfort.

Our farm cats never die like this. They show up every day to eat...until one day they don't. We usually find them curled up sleeping somewhere. Except they're sleeping forever. I hope I don't have another experience like this any time soon. hmm.png

We ARE glad we were able to extend her life by a couple years and give her experiences she never had when she was a house cat in the city.
She'll always have a place in our hearts. :love

We had a new cat show up a few days ago...another male kitty. This one's about a year old. A really nice fellow. If he isn't one of the neighbors cats...apparently his name will be Jericho...lol. Dh named him already. We're wondering how he'll get along with Steve Harvey, the male cat that showed up last fall. :th

Evening everyone.
Hi Al! So glad you are safely home and the home is none too much for the wear.
Don't remember how much I shared on this thread about the failing health of my husband's brother and my dear friend but his suffering came to an end this past Tuesday. Made for a very long and difficult week ending in a far too long four hour drive south yesterday, a few hours at the church, watching my strong solid man grow old before my eyes as he stood on the platform struggling to choke out a few precious words about his little brother and lifelong best friend. Next, a quick visit to their home to honor his brother's last request and raise a glass of his favorite brew and toast his life, then the long quiet drive home amid the madness of the holiday traffic. Today life goes on, just somehow ever so slightly different.
I'm a bit late. I'm so sorry about your brother-in-law. :hugs
It's especially hard being with him being a younger sibling.

I learned long ago that no one person, knows everything. While that seems an obvious statement, and it should be, but in reality, it's not. I had to learn, not only to acknowledge my limitations, but to acknowledge them without being ashamed, embarrassed, or feeling like I was somehow less, because I was lacking in some areas. That is not such a simple thing.
Well said! It is not such a simple thing.

I don't use fermented feed...but you statement left me with questions....

@ronott1 ...why not fermented feeds?
Fermented feed has a cult like status so I hesitate...but oh well...
There are no studies that show any benefit to FF. It is something that has created a mythology of benefit when there likely is no benefit.

For me, I had the most chickens die while using it so I do not trust it at all. It is too easy for toxins to develop in the feed. Recently I have been running across posts where there was poor flock health and a hatch I had where the comment was something like "I use FF so my flock is healthy" When there was an obvious nutrition issue going on in the flock. Same people will not listen when told to use better feed and to add something like calf manna as a supplement.

Sorry to put you on the spot. It was not my intention.
I thought I had missed something key.

I don't use it and am not planning on changing. It doesn't fit with how we manage things. If there was something detrimental about it, I wanted to know so I don't make a mistake.
