The Old Folks Home

My turkey poults were like that...we had to go in every hour and peck at their feed so they would eat! Sooooooo stupid. It took them a week to learn to do it on their own.

We tried the shiny stuff in/on/under the feed...didn't work...they would peck right on the shiny, but not on the feed.

I hope your keets aren't that slow.
I am trying to find a few chicks somewhere to teach them stuff but so far no luck locally and i have no truck to drive around:confused:

That has been what is so much fun with these three chicks I just hatched out. Here is Big Burd, who almost died in the shell, teaching these two little bantam chicks how to be chickens. They watch him like he is god, intent on his every move and then copy him.

I'm so sad! I haven't been this sad over losing a chicken for a long time, because I haven't lost a chicken for a long time. My little Uggums is gone. :( She just never came out of that last broody very well. She got real thin while sitting, even though I took her off the nest every now and again to eat and drink, which she did, but not much. It was so hot..and still is. She was skin and bones today. :( Man, I'm going to miss that little cute thing come running every morning when I go out. Silly some say, but I think there are a few here that can relate to the sadness of losing a chicken. :( View attachment 1075505

I'm SO SORRY!!! :( Our chickens are lap chickens & when we loose one its really hard. I know some of them are even harder to loose than others. Sending hugs! :hugs

Evening everyone :caf
Wow  I get busy for a bit and I'm over 40 PAGES behind!!! I am sorry, I confess, I did a lot of skimming.

I do remember the insane hay prices (never paid more than $4 a bale and I thought that was outrageous) but then I am not buying the high quality stuff for the coop or for the hens to play with. Good oat and/or barley straw so far has never been over $3. When I've told farmers what I wanted it for, I've had them just give me bales of perfectly good older hay or just toss in extra good bales. Sometimes looking like everyone's grandma has it's perks ;)

Weather here has been wet, hot and crazy muggy. All the things we never have this time of year. We just don't EVER get high 80's F and super humid! Finally today at least we had a day of comfortable 60's and cloudy and less humid. Should get one night of good sleeping weather.

Beautiful piece Deb! love the wire work.

Sorry for the loss of the cute hen, congrats on all the cute chicks.

:frow to all the new old folks ;)

Sorry about the stupid neighbor issues Ron.

Great kids Al :love

Should get the netting up tomorrow and then the chickies will be able to move outside into their new home. They are so sweet and healthy I know I'm going to miss them when they move. Except not going out until after Saturday, another heavy storm system supposed to move in. We have been fortunate so far and the really destructive stuff has been missing us tho we did lose another big tree to lightening yesterday morning.
Had another roadtrip to the oncologist today (boy, no wonder I can't get any projects finished. If we aren't going, company's coming :th). However, CBC and chem panel results were the best I've seen in years, sooooo, won't know for sure til the quantitative bcr results are back early next week but things look great for me still being in TFR (treatment free remission):highfive:

I put a damper on things..you all were talking drive ins..I loved them. They were still going good in the 70's.
