Three days without internet because it rained. Every time we get a hard rainstorm it goes out, phone still works but no internet, bs, our phone company sucks.....
Welcome back. Ours sucks too.

It's one of those things where even your best isn't good enough. I did get to check over one of my standard roosters, They seem to be holding their own, Marek's just kills. Period. You can't fight it. If a bird succumbs, it dies. If it doesn't it has to be pampered it's whole life and frankly, I don't see getting resistant birds that way.

Sigh, sorry. Don't mean to be such a downer. Just reality sux sometimes.

:hugs

It is tough but is one of those things that happens. It will pass and you will have better health.

"and this too shall pass..."
I have decided not to buy any poultry at auctions. I think they are hotbeds of infection. I used to buy and sell there a lot years ago. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I don't even have advice to offer. I can't imagine what I'd do in your situation. It just seems so... unbeatable. I admire your tenacity.

Yep, that's me, Tenacious. I have always been stubborn. That little girl dying this morning, fine last night, gone this morning just really hit me harder than I care to admit.

I won't buy animals from sales either. I still have no idea where this came from. But just like this fox we have running around our neighborhood dragging it's killed chickens and Guineas across our property and eating them by our pond, it could be coming from anywhere and anything. Like I said, you can't fight it.

My older standard sized hens are laying poorly right now. Whether it's the weather, getting ready to moult, the disease or the fact that they don't like the bantam roosters (they really hate the little beggers) Idunno. I did an experiment, taking 5 Welsummer hens and putting them in with my standard roosters and they immediately squatted for them. Hmmmmm. Maybe it's time to split up the biggers and the littles. If the Welsummer hens start laying again I guess I'll know the answer to that question.

Nothing like your hens running the show for you.

Thanks guys. :hugs

So sorry about your troubles with Marek's. Only wish I had something comforting to say... but just:hugs
