Yep, that's me, Tenacious. I have always been stubborn. That little girl dying this morning, fine last night, gone this morning just really hit me harder than I care to admit.
I won't buy animals from sales either. I still have no idea where this came from. But just like this fox we have running around our neighborhood dragging it's killed chickens and Guineas across our property and eating them by our pond, it could be coming from anywhere and anything. Like I said, you can't fight it.
My older standard sized hens are laying poorly right now. Whether it's the weather, getting ready to moult, the disease or the fact that they don't like the bantam roosters (they really hate the little beggers) Idunno. I did an experiment, taking 5 Welsummer hens and putting them in with my standard roosters and they immediately squatted for them. Hmmmmm. Maybe it's time to split up the biggers and the littles. If the Welsummer hens start laying again I guess I'll know the answer to that question.
Nothing like your hens running the show for you.
Thanks guys.
