The Old Folks Home

It's 77 here right now.:wee

We had a brief shower this morning but it never got above 84 here all day. I just checked the weather and they are calling for heavy rain over the weekend.

Anybody have birds going into molt early? I have more feathers than usual showing up on the coop and two roosters that are looking a little on the raggedy side. I just told DH that I need to pull more of the young cockerels from the main coop so they didn't pester the molting hens.

How can next month be Sept already?

Such a shame you had to deal with that SCG after waiting 15 years to have them :hugs... I love ribs... Was it a quantity issue or quality? Too rich a meal? too much fat/grease? If you don't eat much meat then overload, I would imagine that could cause quite a bit of discomfort. Hope you give it another go and it is better for you.

On another food note, I love chicken wings cooked in numerous ways. I haven't bought and cooked any myself in years but decided to do so as the local grocer had them "on sale" for $2.29/# :barnie:eek::th I remember when they were considered almost as offal items and were cheap to purchase... Anyway, I gave them a light dusting of seasoned salt and baked them on a rack at high temp. The skin was crispy, salty & utterly delectable :drool I devoured them all in record time!

Chicken legs were also on sale for 0.39/# in 10# bags so bought 2 bags and repacked them for meals. Hard to justify the cost of raising chickens as well as the work and time investment when it's so much cheaper to buy them all ready to cook. Especially when producers are starting to take note of consumer's desires for less antibiotics & such and better care of the animals. 20 pounds of meat for under 10 bucks is hard to pass on...
