The Old Folks Home

Nice looking birds Chicki. I can't see them all when I tried zooming in on my phone maybe 5.lol
Hehehe. Thank you. Really not bad at all for hatchery stock, are they? Have to admit, I'm not sure yet about the BA's tho but all the personalities so far seem to be great. There's actually 8. 6 on this side of the fence and 2 adult Wyandottes on the other side using their "camo" mode to check out the babies.

Our TSC has red sex link pullets and cornishX right now, $3ea. Never saw them have chicks this late in the yr, usually not even in the summer. They must have got a good deal on them.
No fair. Just saw some chicks in my favorite feed store too, but they were meat birds and something else, that I didn't need. Shucks.

I'm giving my best guessament that those two buffs are pullets. They are getting near POL. Mine develope chin wattles when they are about to lay but the head combs on those two definitely look pulletish to me.

Now you just wait. One of them will crow for sure.:lau

Yes, I managed to pass up the red sex links. My original flock that has survived the Marek's so far are almost three years old now. The ones that survive I'm hoping to cross with Fayoumis that I am hoping to get next spring to get a more disease resistant flock of layers. There is a big BUT to that statement though. The whole experience has soured me out on the Buff Os that I have. Research has caused me to discover that they are one of the more susceptible breeds when it comes to MD. I love them dearly. Such sweet unassuming birds but the emotional strain of watching them decline and die is something I don't want to go on experiencing. So far my bantams are doing pretty well knock on wood. I have lost two to MD compared to almost 13 or more of the standards.

I'm seriously considering going to all OEGB and Fayoumis at this point in time. My youngest BO is a the little cockerel I did an emergency assist on and he is my baby at almost 3 months now. I'm wondering if he doesn't have some OEGB in him as his size is a bit small for a BO.

So yeah, I was able to resist. Now if they had been bantams..............

I think Ron means clicking on the "Account" tab at the top...and then clicking "your albums"

I get to my album by clicking the Gallery tab at the top and then by clicking "Your albums" on the left side under albums.

:lau No thanks. I know of what you speak. My kitty (now passed) was so good at being "helpful" that I had EVERYTHING stuck down with poster tack!

Thank you! I ordered from Hoover's Hatchery in Iowa. They don't have a huge selection but they're prices are very reasonable and they don't charge shipping. All their hatching stock comes from either their own farm or nearby farms they work closely with on quality and biosecurity. They have all the APA and NPIP certifications, etc. as well. I went in with a neighbor on the order and she was so pleased with the health and appearance of her chicks when she came to get them that she overpaid me! You can check them out on FB or their webpage. They're a great long time family business. Personally, I've tried several hatcheries, mostly with heartbreaking results and had almost given up. I don't plan on ordering from anywhere else again.
I usually order from Murray McMurray, but they quit hatching polish in July. So i got my chicks at Hoover too! I am thinking the Speckled Sussex are going to be too speckled, but time will tell. All the chicks i bought survived!
