My neck problems are mainly from an auto accident and then when my mom had dementia with aggression and she liked to whip me around by my pony tail which pretty much sealed my cervical vertebrae's fate. If I don't have my pillows positioned just right I wake up in the morning with numb arms.
I've had back problems since I was about 14 years old and it hasn't gotten any better. My Lumbar vertebrae have loosened at the S1 L5 juncture causing the spinious process (I think that is what he called it) to hang up. I understand what you are talking about when you say the pain feels like a knife being rammed into your back. When my back goes out it even hurts to breathe. Forget about moving like a normal human being.
Plus I have the inflammatory condition in my joints which compounds the problem. The PA I was seeing finally insisted that I see the DO she worked under as my last siege with my back lasted 3 years without any improvement. He was pretty impressed that I was handling it as well as I was. It took regular adjustments and finally injections into trigger points and injections into my SI joint when I developed sacroiliitis My left leg was bearly working due to the sciatica that went along with the SI infection. It was a long hard summer last year because the pain made in impossible to bend, squat or put all my weight on my left leg. I was pretty impressed when my DO had me walking pain free in less than 30 Min.
The treatments are expensive. 300 dollars a pop and my insurance pays for none of it so I usually only go in about every 3 months unless things get really knarly. The adjustments really help and I look forward to having my doctor rip me a new one for not coming in more often whenever I go in
But you are correct. It feels soooooooo good when it stops hurting.
@perchie.girl have you ever considered going to an doctor of osteopathy? I've been to both chiropractor and DO and I tell you the DO made a believer out of a Very sceptical me.
Back pain is the worst!
I know how disabling back pain can be. I spent 2 days in bed once with a pinched nerve. If i moved at all it was really bad.Welcome to the thread @the meadows. Glad you could pull up a rocking chair and join us golden oldies.
Today is our call before the storm. It's almost 80 degrees out. light winds. It feels like spring and as a result I'm not getting anything accomplished as I have spring fever in Oct. It's supposed to be raining by morning and through tomorrow night with the high only in the 50s and the lows in the 40s so I'm trying to revel in the nice weather while we have it.
My thumb is surprisingly not painful at all considering how many times I've whacked it with the hammer over the past three days. My husband keeps urging me to hook up the air hammers to the compressor and use them but I can just imagine the mayhem I would cause shooting nails everywhere.
I set last night watching horror movies on SyFy and had nightmares all night. Geesh, I'm loosing my touch. Used to be able to soak up horror movies without blinking.
The plan for the day is to do as little as possible although I am on my way out to water and fill the feeders. Then I'm turning my attention back to reading Cap's coop build thread.
Beer Can that rooster is a beast. Am I seeing right or is his left foot bandaged up? Looks like a Bumble Foot wrap.
@penny1960, does spinal stenosis cause the numbness? I have problems with tingling in my feet and hands. Bad neck, yes, bad back yes. I know I have a scoliosis in my lower spine which causes a lot of my problems but I've wondered if the scoliosis is contributing to stenosis or degenerative vertebrae/disc disease.
I've never seen bumble foot before except for on here, hope my birds never experience it (or me)

I don't do chiropractors, ever watch 'Jacobs Ladder'?Dd #2 called yesterday. About 7 months ago, she was stopped at a stop sign, and someone plowed into her, totaling her car, and causing her back to hurt. She went to a local back doctor. He told her she was leaking spinal fluid, and it would heal. A few weeks later, when she went in for her checkup, he told her it had stopped leaking spinal fluid, and was good. She complained it was still hurting, so he sent her to a chiropractor.
Going to the chiropractor had brought no relief from the pain.
She went to a highly rated neurosurgeon. Friday, she went for her follow up visit. She has a big herniated disc at the top of her spine, dead center, which is causing her to leak spinal fluid. She has a slipped vertebrae on her spinal cord, dead center, too. He does not understand why she is not already paralyzed on her right side, able to walk, and not screaming in pain. He wants to do ACDF surgery ASAP. She called her lawyer, and he spoke to her doctor. He's (lawyer) now busy notifying the insurance company, and getting it all approved.
On a brighter note, my mechanic called, and my truck is totally fixed.
she was OK with that, no, no no, tell your Doc! no money for a very long time... plus the Chiros I used to go to would recommend a DO.@perchie.girl have you ever considered going to an doctor of osteopathy? That top pic looks like he has some Bielelfelder in him, super pretty roo!I love that quilt, SGC. The colors jut jump out at you.
My doc is just the opposite, penny1960. He's a DO trained in joint manipulation. He keeps telling me. You come back and I'll help you....which he does, until the next time and the time after that and the time after that...sigh.
I was able to get a few pics while I was out feeding and watering. This is Godzilla (DH named him because he is twice the size of my OEGB crosses) . I call him Z. He's a Crele whatever. S'posed to be an oegb. Admittedly he popped out of a bantam sized egg but what happened after that is anybody's guess:

I love his coloring and personally, I would have named him Hoss.
This is Handsome showing how well he can crow:

And finally, this is Twonky. He is trying to convince the pullets that the hole he dug in the chips under the nesting boxes is the perfect place to lay an egg. Meanwhile, three were vying for possession of a real nest box so they weren't too impressed by his nest building prowess:
