The Old Folks Home

It's that time of week, who has weekend plans?

Tomorrow I am picking a friend up at the airport, and she wants to learn to quilt.

I gotta get the winter prep going - all the gardens need to be pulled up and trimmed back, wood brought in...

winter prep.... Stuff is starting to freeze to the ground, and nope..we aren't done or ready. But then, that is nothing new.

It is the season for lower egg production!

Yeah... my bantams are very seasonal layers, and I don't have light set up for them, and it is getting cold, and most of them are old. :lau

Big girls are still doing well.

spent the last few hours trying to pull up the flower beds. It's 66 and sunny here, and I got about 80% of it done. I wanted to finish it but the ground is so hard from no rain, I am waiting for the Tuesday rain to (hopefully) come and soften things up so I can pull up.
I made a dent and that's what counts.
And found a tick on me already.

A tick? Aren't those a spring pest?

I just found one on the dog. Maybe it is so warm the ticks think it is spring!

I pulled one off one of the dogs last night also. It was a very slow tick season here this year, thank God. It was the first year in ages that I haven't found at least one tick on me and had to go on antibiotics for it.:celebrateThat is a big reason to celebrate for me.

We have seen no ticks on anyone here thank you lord... I hate ticks :bow with a passion BF is taking the air conditioners out this afternoon I am sitting like a lump here at my computer...
We are in the midst of our rainy season which is the norm this time of year :weeI still hate the rain :old

I am being lazy did not crawl out of bed till 10 I have to take pills to sleep flipside I want to sleep all day my BF is sweet he does not wake me.. I am not nice and throw my alarm if I have one (never used one working) still have not been out to my birds :barnie

Had light off & on sprinkles here this morning at milking time. Goats were off and on about eating. You may have heard, they're allergic to rain for fear of melting. It has been so dry here... over a month with no rain. We really need what's forecast and hope we get some at least. Sorry for all you who have had more than your share (of rain) and would gladly take some of it off your hands if I could. I had really hoped this morning that it would continue to be light off & on showers all day... Give the ground a chance to loosen up a bit before any real heavy rain hits.

I'm usually up by 7:30. If I'm not feeling well I may sleep till 9 but that is rare. DH is a morning person. I've never gotten over working second shift most of my career. Don't get revving until 8 at night to this day.

For tick protection I use Deep Woods Off and spray my clothing inside and out with Permetherin (hope I spelled that right) spray that I buy down at the local MFA. It's the same stuff they use in a lot of the dog topicals and livestock spray ons. They tell you not to use it directly on your skin but hey, your clothing is directly touching your skin. I told DH once that I would rather risk growing an extra arm or tail than risk getting Lyme again so I'm pretty intense when it comes to using Deet or Permetherin.

I switched back to my desktop computer for awhile. I'd been using my tablet so much that one day I went to use DH's computer and couldn't remember how to use the mouse. Duh....

I keep wanting to touch this screen to open stuff. :barnie Talk about teaching an old dog......

@Latestarter, your forecast looks pretty much like ours except the temps are going to be lower after the weekend rain. We set here this afternoon and watched the temp drop from 74 to 70 in 15 minutes. Temp is 69 now. I'm almost glad to see cooler temps. The unseasonable warm weather has brought out those nasty Japanese lady bugs. The ones that like to swarm around you when you go outside then have the audacity to bite you.:duc

Weekend plans ? Mine was preplanned, voluntold I'm participating in helping cut up and split in-laws firewood Sunday... Not happy about it, supposed to be having a big get together and dinner. I'd prefer to do it myself. Going to be just a bunch of family and a few 'friends' that are mostly old, old women, unhandy men, and wimps that don't know how to handle a chainsaw. Meanwhile lazy BIL who should've already have cut it up and has no job left town.
I think I'm just going to go up tomorrow when no one's around and block up the whole triaxle load of logs, leave my splitter, go out early Sunday morning bow hunting and not come back till dark
