The Old Folks Home

Pumpkins? ..... my birds , not sure about these one's but in the past the birds would barely touch them, toss them in the pressure cooker for a little bit and they'd gooble them up.
I bet this bunch I have now will tear apart pumpkins. I've been feeding them the smaller mangel beets, carrot/tater size with big green tops, for a couple weeks now. Disappearing, thought I'd have to shread or chop up the beets for them to eat them, nope, they're gobbling them up, caught one chomping down the other day

Eating the tops, stalks, roots everything.
I'll post a pic when I dig the big ones up, quite a few are the size of football's.

wow... trying to picture beets the size of footballs...:th

Glad you had a chance to take a shower SCG. Sorry to hear you've got a few more days to wait for power.

Cap, that's a lovely river you have around your property. I would have LOVED to have running water like that on my property... just can't/couldn't afford it. Do you fish in it? What's available to catch?

Beets are one of the few foods that is so so with me. I can't say I really like them, but I don't hate them, and will eat them. The thing is, I've only had canned beets. I hated asparagus for years, but had only had the canned stuff. When they began selling fresh asparagus in the stores, I bought some, cooked it up, and liked it. Maybe it's the same with the beets, and I would like the fresh ones.

Beer, my husband said that for years. He had a toothache, and had to have a tooth pulled. He's got 11 more that need pulling too, and will start hurting sooner, or later, if he doesn't tend to them. He also needs a deep cleaning.

On the other hand, I've always gone to get my cleanings, whenever I could. There was a 5 year period that I couldn't afford dental insurance, and was unable to afford to have them done. All I needed was a cleaning when I got dental insurance again. With the chemo, and the anti-cancer drugs I take, had I not taken such good care of my teeth during my lifetime, it's doubtful I would have any now. The chemo affected my salivary glands, so I don't produce enough saliva. That is bad. Yes, I will eventually lose them, but because I've kept my teeth, and gums so healthy, I will be able to keep my teeth significantly longer than normal.

Ron, don't give up on me. I got my spring lid jar all ready. Was going to activate my starter, and realized all I had was self-rising flour. I KNEW I had other flour, and was looking high, and low for it. I commented to my daughter that I must really be getting old, because I had forgotten where I put my flour. Oh yeah, she had needed flour, and took mine, but forgot to tell me. Thanks kid! I'll get more. I'm determined I'm going to do this bread thing, come heck, or high water.

Husband only went fishing once for about 15 minutes. I don't know what sort of fish live in it, probably catfish and other types. It is called the Pigg River. We looked long and hard for a property where we could use our canoe. Like 5 states and thousands of miles driving. I wanted a place with acreage too, this place has 13, which was 2 lots.
