The Old Folks Home

After everything he had been thru I totally expected it to take some time for him to trust us that's why I gave him his own "safe place" to hang in until he was ready. He came out almost immediately on his own, came right over to me, hopped up in my lap and fell asleep purring. He wanted to do nothing but cuddle, purr and sleep in my arms or DH's lap for days.
Our first rescue cat was like that. In fact during the "check the cat out" interview at the HS he was wandering around the office checking stuff out. No concerns with him. He was more a dog than a cat in some respects, always ran to the door to see who was there.

He's friendlier than the other two we have (on purpose)!
The rescues are more grateful!

My baby, Ruger found us about this time of the year 10 years ago. It was raining freezing rain and we heard this 'meow' at the front door. When I opened the door here was this little 8 week old kitten standing on the landing with her front feet on the storm door meowing to come in.

Naturally we let her in, dried her off and got her a bowl of our old cat's catfood. She gobbled, ate a second bowl and then plopped down between us on the sofa and went to sleep like she was saying, Hi mom and dad! I home! We named her Ruger because she was a pistol and she immediately bonded with me.

I was thrilled. My parents never liked cats subsequently there were never many around as I was growing up and I'd always wanted a kitty of my own. Now we have 5, the youngest are 5 years old and the oldest 18. I can't imagine life without cats....don't tell the dogs I said that.

Wow. So that is what you pay for an entire year. Any of our newer vehicles, say 2010 up cost about $1200/year and up. I think our '02 Grand prix still costs $800/year.

I have refused to licence my bike these last few years. It costs more than our vehicles to licence, it's around $1400/year. I've been tossing around the idea of selling it. :idunno

I like that every passenger vehicle (not semi trucks, buses, etc) pays the same rate. Each one uses the road the same. Age of the car, mileage on the car, purchase price of the car, none of these things matter to the road and the wear and tear on it.
I moved to Illinois in '77 after being a military kid that lived quite a few different places. I have learned to tolerate the long winters and Illinois is home to me. Can't imagine living elsewhere...although we have checked out places farther south in Illinois!

Meet my adopted rescue kitty Sammy. Tomorrow he goes to meet his vet and get his boosters. Hard to tell from the pics but he was so thin when we picked him up last Saturday that when he was walking away he looked 2 dimensional. Not much better yet, had some plumbing issues from gulping his food down (never seen a kitty swallow kibble whole before!) which caused him to start throwing up and gave himself a "loose caboose" but a one day fast and a switch to Blue Buffalo can food one tablespoon at a time to slow him down streightened things out. (The first two days he also drank A LOT of water) That is until he managed to steal a half loaf of WW bread off the counter when we went outside to clear snow. He then managed to drag it all the way down the hall and into the front bedroom ( now his room), tear several holes in the bag and eat what probably amounted to two slices of soft bread before he got caught :thGood thing the vet is in the morning. Should know by then if he plugged himself up

Please ignore Angel puppy's appearance. She gets her bath and trim tomorrow. It's been too cold this past week to get her wet.
That is a very cute cat!

Good job getting him healthy

Here registration is based on age and value.

Electric vehicles will have to pay extra--I think 100 bucks-- because they do not pay gas tax which is supposed to pay for road repairs

Just came in from the workshop. Did a bit more on the bunny condo. Attached 2 out of 3 of the back panels and the corner pieces to connect the base to the top. Cut and painted another panel so now the whole back will be covered. I need to get the bunnies into permanent housing. Hope to spend more time on it tomorrow.
Tonight i hung up my winter wall hanging and suddenly i just felt Christmas-y! So i rooted around in the garden shed and brought in 2 more boxes of decor. Hung up the train, the crescent santa and a stocking. Told hubby i am building another coop, this time made of gingerbread! "Can i eat it?" Yes dear. It is going to be his favorite coop ever!

I was major dog person all my life grew up cats belong in the barn... have always had one cat to socialize my dogs to them when i lost my Boy Gunner I had booty the bagel I rescued if it wasn't for the way she bonded to me and was always happy would allow kitties all over her not snarl or a nip.. I still say that darn little bagel rescued me :love

Our dogs do really well with the cats all things considered. They have their moments, especially the brother and sister duo of dogs but for the most part outside of an occasional chase his spit and slap with a claw, they do really well. Our cattle dog used to play with our big 20 pound blonde boy cat. It was funny to watch because the cattle dog would lay on Gem and all you could see of Gem was his head and shoulders sticking out from under Dingo's arm pit with Dingo playfully chewing on his head. Gemmy loved it. He would be hanging on to Dingo's nose with both arms wrapped around his muzzle. Dingo was somewhere around 8 months when we found him as a stray and our border collie was never around cats but really doesn't mind them at all. I guess around our house you could say cats rule, dogs drool.
