I kinda remember those.
Hi to the noobies,
welcome-byc.gif
Pull up a rocking chair and sit a spell. We do alot of that 'round he-ah. CNTM, so sorry for your loss of your mother.

As for me, I am merely AARP certified now-a-days. Not retired by a long shot, has remnants of knees, shoulders, elbows....you know, body parts. I was laid of from the best job I ever had...back in '09. Then, moved to the country with my new husband. So now I am merely a chicken wrangler by day.....and an Ibuprofen addict by night.

Right now, we have 16 chickens in the big pen. And 4 cockerels in the freezer camp line. Their ticket comes up the end of Sept. They were naughty bad game/plymouth mixes. In their 6th month now. I had integrated 5 three month old babies to the pen just the other day. Those boys, all 4 of them...tried their darndest to rip those babies to pieces. So, after 2.5 hours of chicken wrangling.....I caught the buggers and put them in the Que for freezer camp. They are currently enjoying fresh scratch, water, shade, and their own private pens.

I do sew, quite alot actually. Just haven't mentioned it in this thread.

Hope I don't ever have a freezer camp line. I don't think I could handle it....I know with chicken math, it is inevitable. I love to quilt, but not make clothes and such! I'm lovin it here so far :)

When I was 30...my BFF(that was before the term existed

)....was a 70 year old Southern Lady that went by the name of "Miss Mah-ry"...that is southern for Mary. She had a 45 yr old biker son with one leg, who loved his mamma dearly. She taught me lots of Southern Colloquialisms ..."runnin' the roads...", ..."Carry me to the store..........".....
I have never much had friends in my own age brackets. I was usually the youngest everywhere.

Awww...freezer camp ain't much a nuttin. Ima born and bred big city slicker...and am learning the country life. Think "Green Acres" here!!

I teethed on Macy's dress racks.

But anyhoo......processing a chicken is just a little bit more involved than cutting up a chicken from a grocery store. Instead of removing the plastic wrapper, you remove his head....and feet...and feathers....and innards. Then, ya got..chicken dinner!!!

Not to mention that home grown birds taste much better than anything you get in the store, plus you know they had a good life.

I only eat meat that I've raised and that we've butchered ourselves, with the exception of very occasional moose or deer that BF hunted.

Beautiful Day in N.E. Okla. just got home from the Bird swap trying to down size for winter. Can't make my Silkies understand they need to take a break. Came home with empty cages and a little jingle in our jeans.Talk about no knees and an absolutely worthless back that's me. I have a dear friend who is a chicken nut like me who is my knees and back she's worth a million just wish I had it to give to her. We're going on a big adventure tomorrow trading laying hens for another Nigerian dwarf doe I hope. I'll let you know how that turns out.Just thought I'd let you all know this is the kind of old folks home I want to go to.
