Would aloe help? And are you using triple antibiotic ointment?

Right now I'm using triple antibiotic on the deeper of the two. Lighter coating on the lesser, just to keep it from drying out too fast. I have about 10 aloe plants but I'm wondering if once I get this decubitus healed I should start massaging the bone prominences with bag balm to toughen up the skin. I know I'm going to have to keep the 'fleece' protectors on his feet no matter what but I don't know what else to do to toughen up the skin for him. I'm amazed that this one developed as quickly as it did as he does change his positions frequently and likes to lay a lot with his legs stretched out behind him which takes the pressure off the interior and exterior prominences.

I thought about putting a pair of my old socks on him vet wrap around the top to keep them on just to keep the dressings in place. If you knew Dingo, you'd know what I mean when I say I don't think my or my husband's scent would stop him from getting to something he wanted to get to. He's been known to pull chain link apart in order to get out of his kennel. Tomorrow I'll try to get some pictures of his feet.

It's warmed up to negative 16 with the sun out this morning.

Ripley was not impressed but she went out (after I kicked her out) and pooped and peed and then got back up the porch stairs in record time before she froze to the ground. I have to admit our front door only opens about 6 inches before the snow and ice dam that is there stops the door. I can barely get out it, so she's been heading out by herself. The snow piles have formed a pretty good dog fence, and the temperatures are not conducive to dog exploration. So this might be the perfect time to potty and yard train a dog?

Of the farm animals, only the ducks seemed unfazed. I have to admit out of all the chickens that I have the naked necks, the banties and the white leghorns are the bravest in the cold and snow. You'd think the fat bottomed fully feathered girls would be, but nope, they're giant wusses. But even this morning none of them wanted out.

Morning everyone. Uggg. 16 degrees here this morning also but at least we don't have a lot of snow to deal with. Just a few inches on the ground. The weekend here isn't going to be pretty. They are calling for highs in the low single digits and Sunday night low of -13. Today they are calling for freezing drizzle and snow. It just isn't encouraging at all when you see hights of 2.

@Capricorn farm. Yes, I would love to have the silvadene if you are sure that you don't have any use for it. I'd be willing to buy it from you and pay for postage if you would like. That stuff is magic. Let me know and I will pm you my address. Thank you for the offer from both of us humans and Dingo.

Another minus 20 or so night, sigh. We finally got a couple degrees above zero yesterday for a while and the local weatherman put up a fireworks graphic  ! Waiting to get closer to zero now before I go out to the coop. My poor chooks are getting so bored. I've already went thru all my usual tricks so much they're bored with them too (cabbage tether ball, kale in the suet feeder, hiding scratch in the hay, etc) and they even invented a couple of their own "games" like figuring out how to totally unbale the hay I had stacked in the greenhouse. It's like trying to wade thru a hay maul in there now but I have to get in there and clean up their mess because in the process they buried their dust bathing spots. Silly chooks. The pullets have devised a new game for me too. It's called, "guess where I dropped an egg this time". At least they're doing it inside the coop, so far. Unless of course there are some under the mess in the greenhouse.

Great to hear about your fella Micro!
SCG I love the puppy pics!!!

Stay safe all my BYC friends and all your "friends" too :hugs
I worry because even tho we have been bitter and will be still looks like right thru the new year's week, we're used to it and know how to cope and are totally prepared. I know many are getting totally blindsided by Mother Nature this year.
