The Old Folks Home

Beautiful chick SGC. I love the colors.

I am up to 3 external pips now. There is always one that is the slow poke.
:weeYou are going to have chicks soon!

I am always relieved when I see the first external pip

We usually use Kraft mayo, just because we get it by the case at a huge discount. I love mayo, know it's not good for you but I use tons of it mmm. Has to be Hellmans or Kraft, there's a couple others. Do not like the cheap one's, just doesn't taste right. Kraft uses 'free range' eggs, and has made with olive oil also.
I grew up on Miracle Whip, all my parents used, I didn't like mayo. After I met DW, her family only mayo. Now I can't stand that nasty Miracle Whip.
DW thinks it's gross but I love 'Mexican corn on the cob'. I just grill corn on the cob slightly charred, slather it in mayo and sprinkle cayenne pepper powder, parmesan cheese and salt on it, mmm.
Supposed to have mayo, chili powder, cotija cheese, cilantro and lime.

I love it when people make me breakfast!

I grew up with corn meal everything! :drool At least from my one grandmother... I think because she came from a poor family, that had been poor ranchers for generations. For them cornmeal was all they could afford.
I think that is why it's known more as a southern staple. During and after the Civil war it's all they had.
I was reading awhile back on the Civil war, the food prices were unreal. You would have to sell your first born for a side of bacon, and mortgage your land for a sack of wheat flour.

Miracle Whip .. ew!:sick MI L uses that, i would rather eat dry bread.

It is a taste preference for sure!

I do not like Miracle whip either--would rather use butter if it is the only option

I like Hellmans' also but can never find it in the low fat variety so I am stuck with Miracle Whip.

My mom used to make Johnny Cakes to go along with Ham and Beans. I think DH and I prefer Johnny Cakes to plain corn bread. If she had left over corn, she would mix it with the Johnny Cake batter.

I would sprinkle maple syrup over them or honey and eat them with my beans.:drool

Yep, I'm always relieved when the first external pip happens. :love:loveNow they are resting and it's all I can do to rap on the side of the incubator and yell WAKE UP! at them. I have my incubator in the kitchen and I'm spending the day out there so I can keep an eye on them.

I'm running out of things to clean so they had better hurry up and bust out!
