We have menonite families around here but not much Amish that I know of

Lots of Amish around us, Mennonites also. I knew a lady back in IL who raised and showed Laced Wyandottes. She would also raise a batch of Cornish crosses for the freezer. When I asked her if she did her own butchering she said gracious no! I can eat my girls but I cannot kill my girls. She sent them to a nearby Amish community where she had them butchered for only a dollar a bird. Dirt cheap.

My Amish bred stock seems to be more resistant to the disease which makes me think that it is existing in the general area.

Is it possible the Amish stock are "Typhoid Marys"? Resistant meaning they don't show symptoms and succumb to them but are carriers?

Sorry Micro... I think it's the oldtimers kicking in. I completely forgot you were dealing with Mareks... and all the crap that goes along with it. I can't even imagine dealing with all that you have to take into account. If I was closer, I'd happily volunteer to come help you get those numbers down and fill your freezer.
