Yeah... the problem with here when a volcano blows is that everyone runs and buys the masks... you have to have them at home before hand since the stock in town runs out too fast.

Plus the Dust is bad for air intakes.... I heard slipping a pair of panty hose between the air filter and the air has great benefit...

Okay, been one of those days where silly works. Seriously, not being able to breathe is not fun. I've had my asthma kick up on bike rides and it can slow you down really fast. And that's from pollen that you can't see!

How in the world do people with allergies, asthma and emphysema get by breathing that contaminated air?!

I am writing an article started it this morning....

No place I want to live, made that decision 39 years ago. But ... in reality CA isn't a lot different now than it was 100 years ago weather wise. Much of it (what hasn't been stomped on by roads and buildings) is dry scrub just waiting to burn. Much of what is green is that way only because of watering/irrigation.

Yep... only the green part is mountains the rest is desert and grass lands... Much of the area with the red in it is below sea level....

We call it crush and run here, packs down like concrete and with standing water on it never turns to mush.

we use DG very much the same packs down like concrete yet it allows water to run through it like a sieve. Unless you lay a layer of orgainc material on it.... makes for a pond liner .... SMH

Even as a child, I can remember our church group praying for California at times, because of the fires. It's nothing new. Mud sounds a lot better than smoke, and ash. Lots of rain will help ensure there are no fires next year too.

Mud comes with the rains after the fires destroy all the ground cover.
