The Old Folks Home

I remember Tara and her epic long posts! What a trip down memory lane.

I've reached out, thank you.

And thank all of you. I did a couple hours of research on google, but couldn't really find what i needed and was getting frustrated. I did watch some cool videos of people spinning and it allllmost makes me want to try it. Most of the pictures and posts were about wheels that had a wooden rod, not a leather cord, though.

I see you lurking there!

Okay, lets start a discussion. I have 45 or so chickens and three guineas. I want everything else I see, goats, geese, llamas, donkeys. I am conflicted between my love of my animals and the concessions my family has to make for me to have them. There is the time I must devote to them, the money I spend that could be put elsewhere and the emotional attachment I develope. Is there anyone else who worries that they are not being fair to the rest of the clan?
We are lucky in one respect, no clan to worry about. I do have a brother but he's not bothered about what I do. We have no children and the parents are long gone. We have alpacas, shetland sheep, angora and pygmy goats, 3 rescue cats and as I recently lost my old border collie I am now getting a leonberger puppy in a couple of weeks when he is old enough. Our concern is more along the lines of will we outlive our animals or not, but not really much point in worrying too much about it.

Dh went to see his Dr yesterday.
Dr. Told him of a new procedure approved by the FDA. They discussed using artificial disks to replace his 4.
But that will require 2 surgeries.
Another surgeon will open him from the front and put the disks in. Then he will have to have a CT scan. Then wait a day before his Dr will open his back with a 4" incision and put the plates and screws in.
This way he won't have to cut through the muscles in his back. And the healing time take a 1/3 off.
Since April he's had more severe damage to the disks.
Dh did some reading up on the procedure and was not very happy with the reports on the artificial disks. But he's already told the Dr to schedule his surgery. The Dr said he's already pretty booked up so it will be a while.
And the two Drs have to coordinate the surgery together. I asked if it would be by the end of the year and they said yes.
And blue Cross is making them appeal every surgery.
