Morning true to form watched the news had my two cups of coffee we have a new member to our group ?

I DO have hearing loss on both sides, accompanied by tinnitus (nice scream going on right now). My favorite oldest daughter often accused/s me of being deaf, or selective hearing. The truth is, she speaks right in the octave where my hearing is worst, and WHISPERS most of the time, or turns her head away while talking, further compounding my ability to hear her. I have repeatedly explained these issues to her and asked her to speak directly at me and to SPEAK UP! I would hear her "making some soft noise", identifying that she was saying something, but not what. She no longer lives with me, so not a routine issue any longer, but it got to the point that I told her if she didn't do these things I was going to ignore her. I couldn't hear her or understand her words anyway, so why worry and fret about it?

Besides, if there's something she wants me to hear, the onus is on her to do what's necessary for me to receive her message.

I have the same issue with some of my kids... and spouse... good grief!

LOL. Did 23andMe with DH. He has a predisposition for hearing loss, so now he has a ready excuse for not listening to me.

Of course, I have a predisposition for macular degeneration (perhaps), so he won't hear me coming before I trip over him.

BF worked in the mills of Simpson timber around all the machines for 40 years his hearing loss is almost complete from that

Just got home from the bone density test adventure. Easy Peasy plus got told medicare would pay 100% on it. Did a happy dance at that moment and smiled my way through the test except for when they strapped my feet so they were rotated inward in order to scan my hips Ouch said my back. I asked DH if he wanted to bet how many new diagnosises I got out of that scan since they scanned both my spine and my hips.

Regarding the spinning wheel, which I know nothing about but bet real money if you have any Amish wood workers/cabinet makers, craftsmen around you and need parts for your wheels they could fabricate them for you without any difficulty.

@drumstick diva, thanks for the tip about your deaf dog. Our Lucy aka Lu Lu went deaf gradually about two years ago. I think she does hear certain frequencies but otherwise copes very well to hand signals. Never thought about slapping the floor to get her attiention but DH says that if he walks heavily near her she looks up at him so I will have to try slapping the floor. I usually carry a little flashlight with me at night and shine it near her to get her attention. Works like a charm.
