The Old Folks Home

It seems more likely that dogs live longer now, and that when things do go wrong people are willing to spend more money on diagnostics and treatment. Dogs used to be utility companions, and only in the last 20-30 years have become more like family. The best pet food companies invest millions of dollars in making sure their foods are safe and of good quality - quite frankly most dog foods are probably better in quality and balance than the diets of many people.
I find some of the current diet fads, such as grain-free (REALLY not necessary) and RAW diets (highway to food poisoning for everyone) to be quite disturbing. Unfortunately it can be hard to find information that is plausible, backed by rigorous evidence, and realistic. But all that goes back to the internet being a prime source of misleading, malicious and damaging falsehoods.

:thumbsupI have heard that in a pinch (disaster) canned dog food is a good source of protein for humans... Not for the long term because we need vitamin C.

When I buy dog food I buy American made and a top brand like Nutro or Iams... Even Purena though it has corn I have used for more than forty years...

I free feed but body condition is important to watch when you do this. Too Fat Too thin.... My greyhound did perfectly on free feeding... kept his svelt figure ... We didnt do Synthroid because he was borderline. (Grayhounds are sometimes boostered with Thyroid when growing up) It destroys their normal production. Making them dependant.

But I chose not to give him Synthroid. My girlfriend at the time put her Gryhound on Synthroid and he went from Racing Condition To aircraft carrier back.... 95 pounds... My boy stayed around 65 pounds.
He was a smallish Boy anyway... Silly and happy and the usual selective memory.... Could Pee two fee up on the book case... :he Had to leave the flap off the doggy door... He would come in but not go out... Silly boy.

I am going to say one more time only nutritional studies done on corn is for pigs ... corn goes in comes back out just a filler of soap box but Biologically appropriate raw food better known by Barf on it own would kill a dog there are many vitamins and minerals missing that need to be added so Barf is bulls*** Just my humble opinion...
Good afternoon all

If I were starving, at the end of my rope, I'd consider dog food before cannibalism... Aside from that circumstance, nope... Just not that hungry. I know how to fish & have guns, I can make traps, I can use a bow and arrow, and there's animals out there that can become "meat on a stick" over an open fire. If none of that is an option, it would pretty much be a SHTF situation and chances of surviving (let's face it) are pretty slim in any case. My luck, I don't think I'd be one of the "last survivors" trying to stay alive... Odds are against it... in a major way.

Well today's been sucky. I told DH about 2 pm that I wanted to git a reset switch, go back to bed go to sleep and wake up again.

Storm woke us up about 1:30 this morning. Doggo with DM doesn't like storms so he was shuffling around looking for a place to hide that he could get to. Buck didn't like him doing that and started barking at him like he was yelling 'WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? IT'S ONLY THUNDER! GEEZE DUDE! GROW A PAIR! NO I WILL NOT LET YOU HIDE UNDER THE UTILITY SINK!"

That went on for about 20 minutes until DM Doggo found a closet that Buck was okay with him hiding in. I woke up to DH telling me that he had found chairs pulled out from the dining room table. My purse was on one of the chairs and 'you'd better check it over'. Not a good way to start the day. Evidently Dingo had gotten tangled up in the handle some how, dragged it off the chair as he shuffled around with Buck yelling at him, My two month old purse was shredded.:hit

I'm funny with purses. I get one I like and I wear the poor thing out. Spend weeks looking for one that screams "ME!" when I have to replace it. I really LIKED this purse. Went on line. Couldn't replace it. Spent much of the morning trying to find a purse I could bond with. Finally found one after 4 hours of searching. Dragged out my last battered purse and crammed my stuff into it till the new one arrives.

In the mean time, it's gray, chilly and rainy outside.

I'd say that tomorrow has got to be better but tomorrow is shot day.....maybe Sunday?
