The Old Folks Home

Yep again... Though I was born and raised in the city... I have never killed anything for food... But I could have learned when I was fit. I could trap... and fish.... But all of it takes being able to walk some distance.

I will be a goner when the SHTF...

deb

Actually Deb, you may be one of the survivors... You have lots of "reserves" to draw on and keep your body alive, and since you aren't gonna be running any marathons in the near term, as your body slowly repurposes those reserves, you won't be running around like a chicken with its head cut off looking for food. As you get into better (lighter) shape, you'll move better and THEN be a chicken with its head cut off :gig:D

Of course, many of the younger folks would be grabbing their cell phones, and posting the invasion to Face Book, or Twitter. They'd be doomed. We old timers didn't get old by being stupid. We do have some skills.

I'm of the belief that any alien capable of interstellar travel is going to be a really tough adversary to beat should they decide to eradicate us... That being said, I have absolutely no intention of rolling over for them. On the other hand, I HOPE that when they are finally revealed to us by our deceptive governments, they will indeed be "philanthropic" and only interested in our betterment. :idunno

I think we stand a better chance of extinction from our own doing. A pandemic, or "whoopsie" with all the "science" we're exploring, or religious radicalism induced world war. The biggest threat we all face is starvation... Most here have the wherewithal to survive/help themselves, if those that can't don't forceably take that from you.

What will those of recent gens do when they have no grocery store to buy their food from?

I think the 4 and the 0 are the "fixes" - seems very strange though, going from 1821 to 1840.

Is there really a dog food called Barf? :lau

Yes, back in the day those were your four choices. Mom always said "You go to college to get your M.R.S., but while there you learn how to do research." She took the teacher path, which is a riot because she didn't necessarily like kids...but we should be thankful she did because she would've been a worse nurse....so at least, to my knowledge, no little kids died under her tutelage. I run into her former students occasionally and they're still expressing fear and awe. (One of my former judges at the courthouse was in her 2nd Grade class and to her dying day she referred to him as Little Peter Berger.)
:gig

Now none of that Perchie and Peeps. My friend who's husband just got out of ICU is the consumate girly girl while I'm a consumate Tom boy. I always laugh that somebody has to be able to cook the deer, fish, rabbits and squirrels DH and I hunt down should the SHTF. I always tell her that if she has to bug out of IL bring her cookware!

You gals can cook can't you?;)

Thought I'd posted this last night. OOPS

Woke up to thunder, lightening and glorious rain! Weatherman finally got it right. S'posed to rain here throughout the upcoming week. Nobody is complaining except for the farmers who wish we had gotten this soaking about three months ago.

Dh picked our watermelon that has grown in the chicken run.
I washed it and cut it open... So sad!

Apparently it did not get pollinated properly.

In case of alien lifeform invasion, how do you know people could outrun them anyway? We older folks might stand just as much of a chance surviving as most of the younger folks. Most of us older folks would be blasting them. We've got years of reasoning skills, and resourcefulness on our side, along with some spunk, even if we can't run. Of course, many of the younger folks would be grabbing their cell phones, and posting the invasion to Face Book, or Twitter. They'd be doomed. We old timers didn't get old by being stupid. A more real thing is currently happening with invasive species. SF Bay gets some every day. Most do not make it but some take over and kill off the local species.

It is not new. I saw a picture of a creek in Nevada from the late 1800s and then the same creek now. None of the native trees and plants were there!

What is killing off the local species? I missed it?
