The Old Folks Home

Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne illness; it would be pretty unlikely for anyone in Maine to catch it in November.
It likely was another one then. Some to them had 50% of the community die in a year.

Flu, small pox and etc. Digging in the local papers would help figure it out

I think of this often when there is talk about the good old days...

SCG, that's so interesting. About the stone, not your hair. I wonder what carried those two away at the same time ?

OK so we call those ones Palmetto Bugs, so that I don't have to run screaming from the house when I see one
A rose by any other name....still has thorns....

That's weird.

I bought some summer squash seeds from fedco and one was normal and the other was mixed with a gourd. We knew something was wrong with it. But fedco sent us a refund for the seeds stating they grew some and saw they were cross pollinated with a gourd. Lol

I did not plant that watermelon it grew in the chicken run.
Left over from their pooping out some seeds. There is another one growing on the same vine. I guess we'll give it to the cows. Lol they will likely grow their own next year. Lol
My pigs planted pumpkins that grew up into the limbs of a tree!

This appeared in our extended forecast this morning:

Friday Night
A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 40%.jj

:hitno no say is isn't so!:hit

We have had 4 inches of rain so far. Now it's gone past thank God! Rain! to Okay, turn off the faucet now. Chickens don't want to come out. When they do they just track muck and water into the coops. I had to changed clothes when I got finished feeding, watering and putting down a layer of dry bedding. Plus with them being inside more, they are pooping on everything they shouldn't. Fall cleaning is badly needed but I'm not looking forward to it.
