The Old Folks Home

Online shopping is the way to go but some of the best deals are only in store. They like to only get 5-6 of the hottest items in and I wasn't going to miss out this year. I was out from 12:30 to 10 last night and just got home from a morning run to K-Mart, but now I'm pretty much done. Plus I got some awesome deals. Now I can sit back and relax...after it's all wrapped any way.
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Day, Today I'm heading to the coop for a little chicken therapy.

After all that shopping I would need chicken therapy too!!

HEard back from customer that bought a fresh turkey. Happy with the bird, that's good. Roasted in about 3 hours. SHe wondered why, DH thought the added brine moisture to the commercial birds increases the roasting time, IDK, but the customer didn't even know that the commercial birds are loaded up with water . . . more education is needed!! lol

Happy (Belated) Thanksgiving Day!!! We didn't do anything yesterday but rest.....turkey is in the oven for today. Big dinner at MIL at 2.

Yesterday......a hawk attacked my game hen. I thought she was dead. Her roo thought she was dead. DH heard the ruckus...we went outside and I found her splatted in the back yard. Roo was ...NO where to be found. I picked up the hen, after walking by her thinking she was dead. She looked dead. I picked her up and she popped back to life. Took her inside for an evaluation. 3 peck holes to her head and neck...right wing was touchy.

Went back out to the chicken tractor ...found the roo waaaay up in the top of the chicken tractor trusses. I had no idea he would fit his fat rooster body up there.......but he did. He was alive. Whew!! He is my prized EE rooster. Lots of unknown DNA in those gonads. I would have hated to lose him, or the game hen.

He had no injuries...but was scared out of his cock-a-doodle. He thought his little hen mate was dead.

I kept her isolated about 20 minutes. Determined she would be ok, and better off with her rooster. I took her back to the chicken tractor, and they were both soo happy to see each other!! It was touching.

She is eating and drinking and talking and walking today, No more free range for them anymore. They were the only ones who could. I guess that made it too easy for a hawk to get them. But they don't wanna go free range anymore anyways.

What's up with that?

I am happy that your Hen is alive!

When mine get pecked on, I spray the wounds with Vetrycin Gel twice a day. They do recover nicely.

I have some Blu-Kote, but her wounds weren't severe, and I didn't think her roo would bother them.

I am more than happy she is alive...she is my only broody hen!! I would hate to lose her
