The Old Folks Home

Funny how treatments vary.

When I had a severe whiplash they wouldn't give me a soft C collar even when I begged for it. Holding my head upright was painful. I had damaged some of the cranial nerves and tears kept running down my cheek from my left eye. Still no C collar. They finally told me that they wanted the other muscles in my neck to atrophy from not being used.

Man did I hurt so I know what you are going through, Bruce.

Just put my last buff O/Welly cross rooster down. He was slowly declining after being soundly thrashed by a younger roo. This morning he was back in the nesting box. I got him out. Gave him water. He drank two swallows. I offered him food. He refused. Produced a BIG runny white poop..oh oh I said to myself. Possible early kidney failure. He was losing weight. He went back into the coop and immediately got chased by the new flock master. Found him back in the box. Dragged him out by his ankles and plopped him on the ground. He just stood there with his tail drooping. Earlier he just set on the ground. He still had swelling in the toe joints and this morning, soft swelling around the posterior ankle.

Amazing how fast they can go from a big robust bird to all but dead in just a few days.

@superchemicalgirl, another winning quilt. I saw the goat island fabric on Joann's site. I think there was several variations on the theme. Something like deer in the forrest, etc.

Miserable cold outside today. Temps are supposed to be in the upper 40s to mid 50s here. I don't think it reached the predicted high of 28. I was outside yesterday and heard those first 'honks' of the season. Looked up in time to see two huge flocks of snow geese and Canadians heading west. Not heading north yet but they are definitely on the move. Also so tiny leaf buds on some of the wild bushes in the timber and the pussy willows I have planted are starting to bud so there is hope on the horizon.

Spring??? :th

And earlier models, like the one I just lost don't allow you to turn off the traction control so if you do bog down, the wheels stop turning. Best thing to do is back up a distance and get moving again.

I HATE THAT!!! :he I don't have a Prius but my Toyota does the same stupid "tires slid so no more power to YOU" #$#%&!!!!! :rant

Our toilet is also still off,a fact that I remembered halfway through emptying my bladder this morning .

-shudder- hope it gets fixed soon

Sorry about your chicken woes. :hugs

I assume that is "neck to NOT atrophy from not being used".
I don't know how bad you were hurt but yeah, I can't imagine the pain the first 3 days if I had to hold my head up with no support. I'd have spent the entire time lying down and when you NEED to get up, you need to use your hands and arms to hold your head when you do, even with the collar. :hugs for your prior pain!

Sorry about that roo. I've only had one bird that went all the way to the "grave" by declining rather than being ill, predator loss or sudden death from fatty liver disease. She stopped going out to forage with the other adults and would hang in the barn with the chicks I got in April last year. Acted fine, ate fine, just didn't go out to forage for a month or so in the spring. One morning she was looking very lethargic when I opened the barn, figured I was going to have to put her down. But when I came back about 2 hours later to deal with that she had already died. So yes, in pretty decent shape one night, dead late the next morning. :hugs for your loss.

:idunno What happened to the toilet?

scg, what's going on with your toilet?

I have to say this is the most concerned anyone has ever been with my plumbing.

The toilet makes this weird running noise when it has no reason to. Kinda like a toilet sneeze, and then it's quiet again for a while until it sneezes again. Been getting more sneezy over the past few weeks.
BF was convinced we needed a new flapper, but bought the wrong part; then he decided it was some rubber stopper, but then bought the wrong part and yesterday he ripped out the original rubber stopper then tried to shove it back in which caused it to continuously leak so we turned the water off to avoid issues previously discussed on this thread (thank you for the warnings).
He's heading to the store again after work today for his last attempt. He's heading out of town this weekend so if it isn't fixed tonight it's going to be my problem.
