The Old Folks Home

I tried to grow broccoli once. Washed it REAL good, steamed it till it had a bit of crunch left in it. Added some butter, took a big bite, savored, swallowed, looked down to discover half a worm. :sick:th

True story. Refused to ever grow it again and I am still suspicious of store bought, especially with some of the horror stories you read on the news about people finding nasty stuff in their produce.

I grew beautiful cold weather veggies in Canada. Worked real hard on that clay soil. Now i have clay soil again.

You need more insect eating birds around @microchick! Used to have little worms on the broccoli at the prior house. Had to pick them off every afternoon when I got home from work. Hardly ever see any here and I attribute that to the insect eating birds getting to the white cabbage butterflies before they lay eggs. BUT even without that you can cover the broccoli plants with something like Reemay since you aren't concerned with pollination of the plant.

I would build the riser up so moving components are at least eight feet up... for safety.
From what I've read you need to get up a lot higher than that for clean airflow. And the height/distance equation can get pretty complicated when there are buildings and trees around.

Hot and mostly cold all night long .5 blankets and a heating pad and 3 cats.
Sure hope you and BF get well soon SCG!

Wishing all get better from what ails us coops cleaned did get my trail cam yesterday ups so about 6 it was still light out love the longer days we are getting into cheers me
I have a electric blanket sometimes warm the bed only get in shut it off like last night turned it to 2 left it on only have 5 settings :gig

Yeah on the bright side I did get extra protein along with my veggies.

Penny, we have a Beautyrest heated mattress pad on our bed. Dual controls. It's one of our prized possessions. On cold nights, crank it up to 10 to get the bed good and warm then adjust it down when we call it a day.

Plus it bakes the aches and pains away. Best 89 dollars we ever spent.

DH and I were talking this morning. Planning to work out a schedule for the old birds to free range a bit while the dogs are inside. Figure the survivors of Marek's have earned a reward....well, guess it's a reward if we can keep the hawks and foxes at bay.

Maybe let the bantam crosses out in the evening and stand over them with a rifle to keep the foxes away. Won't free range my tinies.

@superchemicalgirl
Kid 2 is in Houston right now with my mom... she took him to the rodeo where there was a small quilt show.

He sent me these 2 quilt photos... not great photos, but great quilts.
