The Old Folks Home

28 eggs incubated; 28 eggs into lockdown. First one out in the latest hatch, a blue-feathered Olive Egger. I do LOVE hatching!

Spent the dawn hours drenching the apple orchard in Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew (Take THAT, coddling moths!) and general yard work. Seemed like a full day of labor before my first cup of coffee at 9:00 a.m.
The hummingbirds are back! They were supposed to arrive April 15th, but we had some nasty weather the past day or so that waylaid them. I was watering the lilacs this morning and one hovered in front of my face and chirped at me. Probably saying the feeders weren't up yet (since remedied), but I'd like to think it was a cheery "Hello." What a great way to start the day!

I love hummers! We barely get a few up here in Alaska (obviously only crazy ones) and I never see them at my house.

I loved watching them in Texas.

It is spring there for you!

Maybe you could rename her rOXanne.
Yeah, Roxie is short for Roxanne. She fell into answering to Roxie immediately so it must sound enough to her ears like Ox that she doesn't know the difference.

It's in the 50s here today and the wind is out of the north at about 20mph so not all that pleasant even though the sun is out. I got an email from a friend back in IL. They had 3 inches of snow last weekend. Snicker snicker. So cold wind is no problem.

@Gargoyle, welcome to the thread!

Tomorrow I'm hoping to move the three week old fayoumi chicks into their brooder room. Have two broody hens in the broody buster where they are happily trying to kill one another. Told them to have at it. Had to clean the hen setting eggs pen....with her attacking me all the way. Little ingrate. Her eggs are due to hatch the middle of next week.

I hated having to put one of the hens in the buster. She is such an excellent brooder/mother hen. Her last brood she stayed with for 4 months. They would cuddle up to her and sometimes under her on the roost bar. But this is the year of low hatch numbers. With the 5 new fayoumi chicks and these three (watch them all be roosters!:rantMaybe I should hope that they are all roosters then I wouldn't have to worry about them going broody or flooding me with eggs.

How many want to bet that they miss sexed the chicks I got from M McM hatchery and I have three roosters or worse yet, all roosters and no pullets!:thnow that would be my luck.

Maybe I should start a contest! How many rooster chicks will Microchick get stuck with this year!

Oh well, gotta go clean up dirty newspapers. Convincing 5 energetic pups that going wee wee outside is soooooo much more fun than going on the newspapers is more of a challenge than I expected.
