The Old Folks Home

Gorgeous weather here (near 80's past few days), so lots of garden work. Waging war on weeds and tall grass in the flower beds. The peas (snow and pod) are taking their own sweet time in the veggie compound, but everything else -- Spring crop -- is doing great: Beets, cabbage, bok choi, toy choi, kohlrabi, garlic, carrots, lettuce. We're eating LOTS of radishes. Spent this morning spraying spinosad in the orchard, so hoping for a decent crop of apples.... Not the "free worm with every apple" harvest. Lawn is growing, but had to delay mowing as the lawn tractor had a flat. Went up on the roof yesterday to clear leaf debris and clean the air filters.
Definitely earning those afternoon naps!

Part of the quail hatch!

I agree with DD. I assume you aren't using Gimp or another photo editor on your pictures. For not being 'sharpened' up, they are beautiful just as is.

Plus I have to admit, I'm a sucker for church architecture. Love it from an artistic POV.

We had to cover everything up last night. Stupid weather. That storm dropping white stuff on the upper mid west dropped our temps to the low 30s last night. We have peas up about an inch, potatoes breaking the ground and tomatoes covered with milk jugs. Temp got down to 33 and is on the rise now so maybe everything was spared. Plus our apple trees are blooming.

Saw a caption on Pinterest last week that said God was looking for someone who would set up all night with a sick calf and when it died, would sigh and say 'maybe next year'. So he created farmers.

We are just hobby farmers but I can sure relate to that statement with Trees and Chickens.

Here are current pics of the pupsickles. They are almost 5 months old now and looking more and more like what their adult selves will look like.

I had a horrible time convincing the site that it was okay to download these pictures.

I'm impressed that DH got them to all sit still for a moment. From left to right, Roxie, in the front is Diesel, behind Diesel is Sidney and next to Sid on the right is Varn.

And this is Ben who was off taking a nap while all the picture taking nonsense was going on.
This guy is more my speed!

They aren't hard to love that's for sure.

I am certifiable. At least I've come to this decision finally. We were over to a friend's house this afternoon. I came home with two Texas A&M quail eggs that I put under a broody SWD bantam hen of mine. He's saving more for me. God, what am I thinking? I need quail like I need another hole in my head. But here I am now hatching quail.

I said I was downsizing my flock. Maybe I meant that figuratively as well as literally. At least DH didn't make me eat those eggs on the way home. He's a sweetie!:love

Microchick, I notice the puppies eyes glow green in the photos. Do they glow green in the dark, if you shine a light on their face? Someone gave me a buff Cocker female- made her championship lightning fast. When it wasn't very bright in the kennel her eyes glowed GREEN., and in photos. Usually you get red eye people or pets. Turned out she had PRA. Lost her sight so fast, she was practically hysterical in the dark.,if anything thing approached her.
Aussie cattledogs are very prone to PRA- as Tara Higgins used to tell us.
