Me too on the emergencies.I keep my phone on almost all the time. My cousin is caregiver for my Aunt, and if she falls, needs my help quickly. I am an emergency contact for all my grands, in case the school can't get in touch with the parent. In the event that one of my daughters' vehicles break down, they can call. I don't talk on it a lot, and don't get a lot of calls, so it's not that big of an inconvenience. I do have a few cartoons downloaded onto it, in case I go somewhere with the little one that we might have a wait time. Even that is not often, but it's handy. I do use the Google Maps feature to find locations sometimes. That's handy too.
Same here DD. Took several people to teach me various things about the phone I got last month. Even the documentation was less helpful than it could have been. Step one included "turn the phone on and ...". Only it didn't tell me HOW to turn it on. Can't just push one of the buttons on the side, have to push the right one and hold it for a bit. Yeah, not feeling real smart with the phone. I'm sure there are more things I don't know how to use than things I do.My son got me a Smart phone not realizing a dumb person is helpless with one.
If you haven't run into this yet, the cheapest way to have a TracFone if you have plenty of minutes is to buy a 30 day card (I think that adds 60 minutes since most phones are double minute for life). When you go to check out they always give you the option to add 365 days of service for $50. So for about $65 you can get 13 more months of service and some minutes. i didn't find this out for a long time so other than DW who calls more often than the rest of us, we all accumulated well over 4,000 minutes buying the 1 year "deal" (something over $100) which usually ended up with at least 800 more minutes that we didn't need.and neither gets much airplay on my budget-y TracFone (which appeals to my $8/mo total amortized cost, including price of phone.
I have a ton of bulbs! Those are gorgeous, Cap.
I'll have to check out the wi-fi calling thing. For most smart phones, you can google the brand, the model, and what you want it to do, and there are youtube videos that will walk you through it. The newer ones have what is called Wi-fi calling. Go into your settings to turn it on. Then connect it into your Wi-fi at your house. That way you should be able to get, and make calls without it hunting for service all the time.
