We live near Chatham. About an hour from Danville or Lynchburg.
Puppy is home!
Oh, yeah, Clue, I do understand it. I feel for the people losing their flocks due to the need to contain what shouldn't be here in the first place. My heart would be broken to see my pets being destroyed like some of these peoples' are. And yes my jaw dropped when I read the article and came to the part where people were taking their flocks and hiding them outside of the containment area. I can understand their grief but I cannot condone or understand their ignorance.
I remember the first lecture we had in nursing college was how disease is spread. They used contaminated bedding in a laundry bag as an example with the laundry bag being dragged on the floor throughout a hospital and anything the bag touches being contaminated.
The SOB group should be working to spread understanding and support for the victims of vND, meaning the families that are losing family pets. Not potentially spreading the disease by urging people to run rabbit with their pet birds.
And somebody needs to be educating SOB on the spread of disease. I truly hope that nobody on BYC in the western states is touched by this disease and face their flocks being destroyed. And my condolences go out to all who have.

The admin of the SOB page will either ban, or restrict posting privileges on anyone providing factual information, or recommending compliance. If you are not highly emotional, hurt, outraged, ready to protest, hide your birds, etc., they don't want to hear it. They subscribe to the philosophy of "don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up".
There are some in the quarantine zone from BYC.
New Castle is like typhus in humans-- 30% that get typhus are life time carriers with no symptoms.
The few chickens that survive are life time carriers. A couple drove to California from either las vegas or Arizona to get a Free rooster...It was a survivor and then infected their flock.
California has been fighting this outbreak for more than a year. If infected, the flock has to be destroyed and then no birds for something like 120 days.
It is terrible!

So even if you have your birds tested and the they are still demanding compliance with the culling? Unfortunately I have the feeling that all they are doing is spreading the disease by frightening people into running with their flocks. Whether they are healthy or not.
This is all the main reason I run screaming from Facebook.
I just hate that they are killing healthy birds. I'm wayyyyyy too much compassionate. I have a feeling I'd be getting my birds tested and if negative getting all the paperwork and working towards a court order to desist with the understanding that if found positive I would comply with the culling but till then......get off my property!
Of course you would have to have a lot of money and move faster than the warrant packing crews.....or like DH just said, be prepared to get a new hobby..
I did see the notice on M.McM hatchery that they would not ship chicks to the quarantine zone.

Ron, the person started the SOB-Save our Birds thread on FB, started a thread here on BYC too. It was something like Help, they're killing all my birds, or something like that. A lot of people began responding, asking questions. All the OP would say is that men came, and killed all her chickens in front of her kids, and she was too upset to answer anymore questions, BUT she had given all the details on her FB page, and put the name, and link to the FB page. When it finally came out what all this was about, it eventually came out too that she 1. Did not confine her chickens when informed of the quarantine, and asked to do so, which would have given her more options at the time. 2. She did not have to make the kids watch, nor did she have to make things worse by acting the way she did. She then set out on an emotional vendetta to spread as much misinformation as possible, among other things.
