The Old Folks Home

Micro love your red, white & blue twinkling stars- do you hear many firecrackers near you. I'm wondering what the puppies will do if they hear it.
Yes, everyone shoots off their own fireworks on the 4th around us unless they are Amish then they just watch the non Amish celebrate. The local townies displays seem smaller than what folks set off on their own!

I heard somebody shooting off morters last night around 10:30 and the pups didn't react to it. Several nights ago somebody was setting off firecrackers and they barked some at that but our older dogs just retreat to the bedroom where the bad old fireworks can't get them.

Here seems as though folks start setting off the fireworks at least the weekend before whatever day the 4th occurs on. There are a lot of 'holiday' properties around us where the 'townies' come for the weekend or legal holidays.

Here we have to use safe and sane fireworks. Can't use rockets so all have to be ground fire works

Excellent advice, Clue. I was going to add also, do a tour. Talk to the 'residents' about how they like living there. How the food is, if they are clean, dressed, properly, is their hair combed and clean and importantly, use your nose. Does the residency smell good? If there is a smell of urine or feces, run away fast. Is the residency clean and free of harmful obstacles? If residents are in wheelchairs, are they able to move around in the chair? Are they urged to stand on occasion or helped to reposition often? Sounds funny, but look at the women and men both to make sure everyone is shaved. Easy to overlook facial hair on women but important to make sure it is either plucked or shaved off. Little things mean a lot when it comes to patient care. Also check for skin tears on arms. They happen at times with little provocation on elderly but a lot of them means rough handling when transferring. Are residents getting medicines as prescribed? One thing often overlooked are eye drops for glaucoma/dry eye patients. It's good if you can find a resident that is willing to set with you for a while and answer some questions for you in a lucid manner.

You can usually check on complaints against a facility on line through the state licensing site. If you can get the names of licensed staff, you can also check on them through the same site, this includes any nurses that are on board.

I sure hope this works out for you and your mom, Perchie.

To everyone at BYC and the 'home',

She does sometimes need help finding her clothes but if we get something out for her to wear she will come out of her room wearing something else.... LOL. Sox on Shoes tied ready for the day.

they have one other 100+ year old .... And it looks to be all women.

Hardwood floors through out and very big walk ways. Bigger than here... Impromptu visits are invited... If I can get my walker around the place I know grandma can.

She very seldom eats snacks... but if she does she wants peanuts or Cuties or apples.
