Chiqita tried to get me hooked on them. She snuck some silkie hatching egg in with Marans and EEs. It was very, Very hard but I gave them away.Did somebody leak the information I was driving to Livermore to pick up this silkie?!?!? Still a bit closer than Modesto, though.
Kim, you may remember the time I said I would never get a "poodle of the chicken world.". Silkies. Bah. Oh, who's a cutesy wootsie wittle fluffy silly bird?!?!
I do have a silkie roo though and NO way is he quiet! Since I'm keeping him, it's imperative I divest myself of newly crowing cockerels to stay under my agreed-upon Two Rooster Limit. Of course, I'm really keeping four carefully selected roosters.... One is in the house. Another Never Gonna Get One of THOSE breeds: a LF WCB Polish.
My how things change!
My recommendation for folks who wouldn't possibly want to keep a silkie is to never, ever, EVER see one live, in person in a flock. Photos do not show how freakin' cute they are when actively puttering around in their chinese pantaloons with the rest of the flock.
As a former silkie-hater, I can say now I was wrong.
There was a sizzle, showgirl and a slikie that hatched....They are now Pets in Redding, CA.
