The Old Folks Home

In Alabama, if you say "tea" you are talking about hot tea and even then people may assume you meant "Sweet tea" which, for you yankees, is iced tea with sugar............real sugar................lots of sugar.

Every glass of sweet tea is scrutinized and critiqued. Restaurants' reputations are in part made or ruined by their sweet tea. Children are taught to make it by their mothers, according to the family tradition. It is considered an art form.
I lived for 4 years equally in Atlanta and Nashville and I learned really quickly to order unsweetened ice tea. My late husband was in hog heaven over there. Although he was from West Texas he still drank his iced tea and coffee as thick as syrup.

Oh, sure, just what you need, SCG.......more hatching eggs!

Welllllllllllll my incubator will have some vacancies next week :)

What's really going to be fun is BF is having some friends over this weekend and part of next week - when my first batch of babies will be hatching, and then your batch will hatch mid-week. I've never met anyone who could resist that.

His friends are moving up here from Atlanta, we're helping them find a place next weekend. Looks like it's going to be "warm" for us, which is good news.

So true. I had my niece's children over for lunch recently and they immediately knew/disliked the fact that my iced tea was not as sweet as their mother's. DH and I tried so hard to like hot tea, but we simply could not develop a taste for it. As for coffee, we like it strong, with cream, and no sweetener whatsoever.

Whew! Close call last night.......

.........SOMEBODY... whose name shall not be revealeD Here........... went to the coop to collect eggs and left the door open, all night. I saw my rooster in the back yard at daylight and panicked. I threw on clothes and ran out to find most of the flock in the open dog pen WITH the chicken eating dog! He was in his dog house just looking at them. It was cold and he has a bit of arthritis and evidently didn't want to get up just yet. Ho harm, no (dead) fowl. One miffed DW.

I lied this morning. I made a pot of coffee and all of a sudden I thought cream and sugar was a good Idea. Then I saw the can of whipping cream and it was on. Put the top on the cup and stated drinking. Then I kept hearing a clunk in my cup and thought ewwwww, what fell in there. Opened it up and I had forgotten to take out the spoon. Better stick to black. LOL

see you can make it YOUR WAY. and yes, us older folks do forget things kind of quickly...

but I do go ga-ga over the pumpkin spice creamer

It's called hording. I find I love egg nog, so when it comes out, I find the best price that still tastes good and buy lots of it. Plus with all my eggs, I learned how to make my own.... Anytime I love something or find a heck of a sell, I buy bulk if possible. Worked on the coffee. I have the old 2.5 and 3 pd coffees still. Try finding them now and for the same price if not cheaper than the ones out now. Ok, I am a bit crazy that way...

As long as I have something to ogle I'm happy

wow!! I am going to leave that one alone, but.. I could get in so much trouble with the first impression that came to mind....

Good morning peeps, so far a great but cold day here in western NC. got the shopping, chores and even drank my pot of coffee already. Need to make another pot... (hey, I got to warm up when I come inside!!!!!!) and start the mid day chores.

as Arnold said. I will be back..... smiles

I certainly hope my coffee lecture didn't scare Tick. I was gonna say tick Tick off, but didn't wanna push it.

I kill myself. I have no one in real life to joke with anymore and sometimes in print, it just ain't the same.

Don't worry, I have survived worse and I find that I see humor in almost everything posted anywhere. That PO (figure it out since printing gets me stars) alot of people when I don't see their anger. Been through to much to sweat the small stuff...

Tick coffee is never just coffee. It all has a unique flavor based upon brand and who makes it and what sweeteners etc. I agree it's over priced but for me it's a great treat since the closest one is over an hour away. I do have tassimo I use every day and I drink regular Folgers at work. It's like coke vs Pepsi or Liptons vs red diamond or McDonalds vs Burger King it's similar but definitely not the same.

Now Bamachick is a coffee snob. laughs. Coffee is coffee, it just depends what you do to it or with it.

told ya I would be back... well I never left, still reading before going back out...

Behind again. Wisher, I want to congratulate you! It must be great to have that done.

Now there's talk about tea..oh, I see there's still talk about coffee.

And DiDi and SCG are going where? I can soo see DiDi out there hiking and climbing those big beautiful orange rocks out here in Utah. It's beautiful. And, I know she will enjoy the warmth!! Oh yeah.

Enjoy the scenery on the way too!

Marraduna is the color--reddish brown. There are 5 or 6 different types of Basque chickens. These are the only ones in the US currently. Some are trying to tease out the white ones. There is a naked neck version and a black meat bird too. They were preserved in Spain in the 1980s. They are gorgeous birds and the cockerels make great dinner. The boy in the picture above is young. He got to be a lot bigger before he went to Rooster Rescue.

The full name is Euskal Oila Marraduna Basque Hen.
