because he and his people are emergency personell, while all othe state emplyees are home, having a "work" day ( haahaa RIGHT!) at home. So He has been in storm watch meetings all week, and conference calls and . . I'm ranting, dam right I am ranting!! THe sacrifices of the emergency personell is taken for granted. He has been gone during every storm for 20 years. THank God I grew up in Maine and have a few survival skills.

He called about 1 to check up on me. SInce WHen has he ever done that ! I did bring up that I will sue the state if he dies on the job--it is the least they can do for his family left behind. ( Oh I am sooo ranting!!)

THe snow has started. I filled 4 5-gall jugs for chicken water. At least the horses and sheep can eat the snow if we are without power for a few days. THey actually prefer the snow over water anyway, so I have learned to NOT fill the buckets full as I just have more ice to clean out. THey are sooo considerate. lol

Yesterday was a day from hell. Some days just su---ck. A horse was injured. I called the vet out for the emergency and had the horse put down. Then called the backhoe guy who kindly fit this burial in his busy schedule as he is also preparing for this big storm. I forget how traumatic these events are and I was emotionally exhausted by 8pm and had to get some sleep. So today I get to cry, and wish I had grabbed some horse tail hairs-- too upset yesterday to think straight. Dang it. Will look for some pictures of her and have hard copies made to put up on my wall of horses. SHe was a sweet heart, and I'm hoping her son will be ok without his best friend. THey always shared a hay pile, and a bucket of grain. She only let him do this, no one else. I moved him to be with some other friends so he won't be alone. At least the storm will keep me busy for the next few days.

So sorry for your loss. Make sure to post a picture here.

The storm's been pretty wimpy thus far - but it just started picking up. I've got a couple chicks in my incubator. Getting the brooder warmed up for the first transfer (and snuggle session).

Arielle - we are both "essential personnel" - when I left work this evening I was one of maybe 30 cars in the lot. A few people brought overnight bags and the center director opened up the lodger unit and the empty ward to anyone who couldn't get home. I have 2 employees who are using it tonight to stay safe. I was lucky to be able to leave at 5 and get home before it got bad. The roads were clear on the way home, and we've only gotten about 6 inches of really fluffy snow so far.

Govenor put out an emergency ban all cars off the road by 4, or face 1 year of imprisonment.
mmm, so are Your jails as nice as those in Cali??? If I was in bad shape I would go for the year of free rent, food and medical. In Cali in the early 2000's, we had a rash of bank Robberies. it turned out some senior citizens were losing their places, Could not afford food and drugs, so they robbed a bank. Now this was about 4 different couples in 6 months. The first 2 pairs got sent to jail. The last 2 told the judge they wanted free medical and food plus cable TV. The judge finally figured out what was going on and put all of them on probation. Now none of them used a gun, just walked in a bank with a piece of paper saying, this is a hold up. The first 2 were released as well but not before the woman had a pace maker put in her and the other couple both had bypasses. The State tried to get them to pay but they told the State, THROW US IN JAIL. See old people can be smart as foxes. Every now and then an older couple still try that trick. Maybe the senior there should get in a car and drive around....

Thats my desperate last measure plan beats living on the streets. Actually 3 meals a day I don't have to cook laundry service a library cable tv laying in bed all day no wonder criminals don't worry about the consequences. As a matter of fact wisher I need a free vacation would you come arrest me? Joking of course the last time I seen a prison was on a field trip I have no desire to ever go there. Of course if anyone ever hurts my DD well....

Sad but true-- the folks in jail have three squares a day and medical but our seniors don't. Something wrong with our system. How about the man who was to get a make over into a woman? Someone finally put the brakes on that. Finally. I was shocked to see how far that process got. Truly scary what our judicial system provides under cruel and unusual punishment.

I just went out to shut off lights for the chickens and toss hay to the horses. I was ready to jump in with the chickens in the big coop. THey are WARM.

As I was going thru gates getting hay to everyone, I was reminded how nimble Sunny was with her lips. I have those odd looking hook and loop type latches; lift the loop and then pull up the hook. Darn that mare would unlock any gate and then open every stall door. SHe was an imp.

Ariel I'm sorry about your horse

Despite our best efforts to revive her We lost one of "our" puppies today she passed after a leg amputation it broke my heart. The ugly little thing actually had a home lined up

bamachick--awww, sorry "your" cutie died today. It is remarkable the folks that want the challenging ones.

Wisher--glad the two were buried next to each other. My mare was tranqed so I couldn't get her down into the next paddock. Would have liked to bury her next to her brother. I would like to think that they are running together now.

SCG do you have power still? How much snow have you got? Is it still falling? We are supposed to get snow today (not nearly as much as you New Englanders). In preparation for our snow "storm" I had 100 bales of hay delivered and trimmed two horses feet yesterday. Snow fal so far? Trace amount. I guess we will have the typical "fizzle" here. Hope all of you New Englanders are keeping warm and safe!
