The Old Folks Home

We have a wee bit of snow here. Oh yeah, and it's STILL SNOWING.

My driveway is here somewhere

The wind has whipped up some really tall snow banks. Keep in mind we had no snow already on the ground when this thing started. That's a coffee can on the ground.

For some more perspective, this is my nubian doe's butt. I convinced her to come out of her house but forgot the cookies so she wasn't very willing to pose next to snow banks.

its a good thing you are young. I wouldnt be able to walk thru snow that deep without needing oxygen. Is the temp really really cold too ???

Pic 1 and 3. That coffee can sure does get around.....
Not bad looking for a 1/3 snow woman and the rest human.
I love the nose. It's still pink....
also how tall are you???? Just to see the difference from your size to snow markings on your thighs...

I see you and think of The Christmas Story, Raphie and brother in their snow clothes...

THe worst part today was carrying 3 flakes of hay to the sheep and I fell backwards and sat down. I realized as i put my hand down the ground to push off of was WAYYYY down. I tried a sit up type manouver, then opted to rollover on to my tummy and push my hands a mile into the snow to lift up. Not sure I'm gonna be able to do this at 80!! Geez, what am I saying, my grandfather was still good to go at 90!!

I am SO glad the snow I get here is never much, mostly pretty for a day, never more than an inch - just perfect to see webbed footprints winding through the yard.

Because I would be doing the snow drift swim if we got that much here. I am notoriously unsteady.

Amen! I was good getting through the snow as long as I didn't have to carry anything.

We are shoveled out. It took us both 2 hours to shovel, scoop, blow and plow the driveway and to all the animals. BF just went to go plow his mom out. He gets to plow and snowblow. I shovel and scoop. I'm staying home and taking a bath and some naproxen.

Everyone had been in their houses for about 60 hours. The chickens smelled atrocious. The goats were so happy to get out they swam through snow to get to me. And then they "helped" me get the chickens shoveled out. Mostly that help is head butting me on the butt or chewing on my gloves or trying to ride in the snow scoop...

In a bit we've got to go pick up our friends from Portland. They got stuck - their plane arrived in Boston Friday morning, but they closed the interstate so they spent the weekend in Boston.

Oh and Brains died this morning while I was out shoveling. She screamed all night, so I think this is for the best.

I'm sorry about brains, but I agree, she is better off.

I feel certain that the problems with those two chicks were chromosonal, I can't imagine how incubation issues could have caused the issues at all, much less in only two chicks. If any of the chicks from my eggs have issues, I will be more willing to consider it. I have not hatched any eggs from the hens that laid your eggs, but have not had any issues from the eggs the hens came from.

I think I would discuss the issues with the breeder of your other eggs, if for no other reason than he/she needs to be aware there was a problem. I know I would want to know if it were my eggs.

Funny about the goats "helping" So cute.
Wish the little chickie had made it but you are right - its for the best

Sorry Brains didn't make it thru the night-- very sad.

I need to finish clearlng today. THe sun is warm. THe birds are venturing out on the cleared paths. Everything is beautiful.

I caught another mouse in the live trap; and realized as I walked down the drive to the hidden rock, that I can't even find the rock!!! It's about 4 feet high and has a wonder open cave under it where I let the mice go with some food. And yes, while I was carrying the cooler of eggs and the mouse, I slipped hit my butt and felt it all the way to my neck. Dang it. Took a tylenol. Must have been the curse of carrying something!!!

Glad your friends have arrived, the travel ban really helped the snow crews clear the road. I talked to DH late last night, and he said that was a huge factor for them clearing the roads. Penalty of 1 year in prison or $500.
