The Old Folks Home

How do you deal with the waiting? I set 6 assorted mix NN eggs on Sunday and all I want to do is candle them (I haven't touched them), they wont show anything till Saturday anyway. But the waiting is killing me. Instant gratification is the American way and patience has never been my strong suit.
Oh this is just excitement, and eager to see what is going on, THe thrill of what is to come!! I candled all the time, and fussed. CUrious, Wrote a notebook ful of observations. I couldn't see development in a 5 day egg, but with practice I can now IF they are light brown-- marans? Naught!! Up at mignight, when the house was quiet, and the house dark. Obsessed? Yes!

Enjoy the eggs-- it's the excitement that children experience-- I know I felt young again.

Quote: I love coffee!! IT is more of a treat now . . . . I"m very picky about what I like, Life is too short to put up with yuck. I try many different packaged blends from a cheap store, other wisw I wouldn't spend the money!!
Hate DD coffee, will NOT drink that stuff. Maybe it's good with the extras to mask the diluted coffee.

ANd yes I am a splenda person and heavy cream please!!

COme Halloween I will remember to hold out Reese's peanut butter cups for the kids' coffee. Yes, they BOTH drink coffee now. My youngest has been stealing my coffee for years. I go to take a sip and the mug is empty. (sigh)

Yup I love coffee, but I don't drink 4-6 cups a day any more. ANd only decaf as caf messes with my blood sugars.

Oh, and I have gone to boiling in a pan, like a cowboy!!

Can I have a straightjacket please. SCG, are you taking orders. I could use one. For myself.

SO much to catch up on--

Hope the kids get a stable home.

My boys have a friend that finally just had his formal adoption by the foster parents. BIG catered party and a houseful of yelling boys! He's a great kid and I"m glad he will never have to see his natural family again. He is thriving after years of counseling in his new home-- the new parents sold the family home to move to a better neighborhood just so their "son" could be away from bad influences. THat is love. That is putting children first.

Children FIRST.

Arielle and bamachicks8!

I hope the custody case goes well. Police reports help even if they do not do anything.

The great thing about roasting your own coffee beans is getting flavor without having to have bunches. Half a cup of espresso with milk and Half and Half has so much flavor. You do not need a lot of it either.

This place has it all! http://www.sweetmarias.com/index.php

The Beans I made Espresso from yesterday is described here: http://www.sweetmarias.com/coffee.indonesia.sumatra.php?source=side It is this one: Aged Sumatra Aceh Pwani -2007 Vintage

I am going to order more soon.

The Sumatra Lintong Pak Joner sounds amazing. What's your roasting process
I currently roast in a Gene Café Roaster. I bought it on ebay from a Guy that was giving up coffee, so it was half the cost of a new one.

I have roasted in an Hot Air Popper. Those cost a lot less but only roast a small amount of Beans.

It takes 19 or so minutes and then there is a cool down cycle. These are supposed to be best after three days of resting but it was very good after two days. I am going to make more espresso tonight.

Well, today, I discovered my MW Tom loves me lots.

I like to settle in for hand feeding treat sessions, either sitting on the front concrete planter or cross-legged on the ground. The more shy birds will then come closer and risk pecking right in the palm of my hand. I feel like Buddha, with elbows resting on my knees, palms up with BOSS for the flock. I also toss more out a few feet away to draw them in closer, refilling my hands as necessary.

My dominant rooster participates and is the first to take seeds, one by one, dropping them for the hens. He wends his way through the milling chickens, coming back several times. One gander moves on the outskirts of the crowd, occasionally nipping at the MW Tom to move him away. The BBB turkey hens eat out of my hands, as does the Tom.

However, he was getting pretty pushy today, but not taking treats. I had to put my arm over his back and pull him closer, holding him down so his display would deflate and shy chickens could come take treats from my hands. When I released him, he stepped away, then back again, stepping onto one of my Crocs to start .... Loving it. He started to walk up my leg with the onvious intention of mounting my knee.

Well, that ended the treat session. By the way, I've finally re-named him to Sarge. Still not gonna put up with a horny Tom named Sarge, much less one formerly known as Madge.

never heard of a chicken knee, chicken butts yes, never a knee. You may have to sit him down and explain the facts of life to him......
I have done it many times to my not too smart Roos....
