Hi Dan!

The dye is probably injected into the egg the same way they give them the Mereks inoculation. It is beyond what home hatchers can safely do.

So my mom called and asked if she could by the girls a duck after a big no she said well they have Easter eggers can't I get those? of course I said yes so she asked how many because they only had 4 left so I said get all of them.Well she came by with this

That's right that is 6 dyed LEGHORNS! and on toP of that I think they are all roosters!

Pretty !

In Massachusetts you cannot get dyed chicks . . . . . solves one problem. If they are leghorns besure to keep 1-2 as they really are great layers, and cross with what you do have for hens. I have a flighty WHitey, a hamburg, and aint nothin' catching THAT bird. He's a super watch dog for the flock--love having him. I can only catch him once he goes to roost for the day then he's easy-peasy.

Hi y'all, how ye reckin they dyed them chicks?

I love the colors of the dyed chicks-- can't see that it really hurts the chicks, or haven't heard that it does, but here in Mass it encourages folks to purchase chicks that are clueless and don't realize these are creatures that need care.

I'm with WOlf-- where are all the other colors. Need a rainbow of them IMO!!

I can see using a dipping method to add to the color as they feather in , like a rit dye, to extend the enjoyment over months!!

I like how you think!!! Only come to think of it most of my chicks are blues or blacks. Oh maybe on the chest where they start with white patches. !!

When I bought poults from POrters the poults were dyed on the tops of their heads to keep the breeds straight. THey had about, hmm, let me think . . . maybe 8 colors they used.

I'm 44 and I STILL have trouble with chores and teachers and friends and especially parents. The type of trouble has changed but it's still trouble.
Haahaa--- LIfe is easier when I don't rock the boat at school!! THey sure don't want to hear the truth. I"ve set a principle back in his chair with my observations of public school-- he ws demoted the next year. NIce guy but didn't get that the school had issues that needed addressing. ANd when I speak up, oh, the teachers sure don't like it either-- I have finally learned they really don't care or can't change the system, so I don't bother with them anymore. I'll stop here about teachers . . . . . they are stuck in a system that doesn't work well

You could probably dye chicks with a food coloring dip like a lady in my area does her poodle. She keeps her dog pink most of the year and matches each holiday.I asked her once how and she said it was a quick dip without rinsing.
