The Old Folks Home

I suppose it can't hurt to ask.

But for heaven's sake, you drove 2 hours to get treated like that? I bet you could find people a whole lot closer that'll be rude to you.

I'm sorry you made the trip for nothing, but glad you didn't reward them by buying something you didn't really want anyway.

Good luck with the goat shopping!

Yeah, I can go to work and get treated like that!

Even if they had the most beautiful spotted doeling I would have thought twice about giving them my money.

I had someone come out here once and try to buy 15 point of lay pullets for 2$. He claimed my ad was misleading ($2/each) and that I should sell him the 15 pullets for 2$.

I must have looked like I was born yesterday.

HOWEVER, I was nice to him. Firm, but nice.

I forget, was it Miss Manners who used to say that other people's rudeness was no excuse for your own? Anyway, you certainly can tell someone that they are way off the mark and still be nice about it. It never hurts, and it's hard to get in a shouting match with someone who is calm and polite. (of course, once they leave, you can say what you really think of them!)

SCG--

That lady was a peice of work. Skip THAT farm. There can't be only 2 good breeders in your area??? A champion goat is not what you need anyway. Just a goat that can give milk right? Most goats will give more milk than you can drink or make cheese with, unless you are starting a new side buisiness in hopes of retiring from the OTHER one where you are treated like &^#^$?

Keep looking, find your spotted girl and as long as mom is a good milker of the right breed for milk Vs meat, go for it. THat is my 2 cents worth.

SCG You really have restraint. I would have mouthed off to that old bag and she probably would have shot me with sawed off shotgun.

Probably not. I'm sure BF or I could have drawn faster than her.

I think you should have stayed to be disbudded.....

I was tempted.

I did joke with BF on the way home that that's how he got the divots in his head (he had hydrocephalus as a kid and had to have drains put in his skull).

Arielle, you are correct I do not need a "champion" goat but I would like a nice looking goat that has good genes and gives nice milk. I have tasted nubian milk and like it a lot, I cannot say the same of some other goat's milk. I have seen sickly, scrawny nubians and would like to get a nice one. I was also hoping that I would be able to sell babies for a decent price (probably not 400$ since I don't show) but it's easier to get rid of full blooded nice lined kids than unregistered mutts. You need the baby to get milk, but I don't need a lot of goats nor do I have the room for goat math.
The one thing that I really don't like about nubians though is the NOISE. They are major screamers. That is why I am considering other breeds at this point. It seems like LaMancha milk is the most similar in composition to nubian.

I'll stop yapping about goats now... at least until Tuesday.

SCG so sorry you had to deal with such a schmuck. Just because they show, and have CHAMPION (get me the smelling salts, I think I'm agonna faint

) goats doesn't give them the excuse to be rude to anyone let alone a paying customer. Does your other goat friend know of any other breeders nearby that have a human personality?

I think I would have "disbudded" her.

The truth is people will pass on a bad experience more then they would a good one. I know it is true because I manage a customer support team. Those folks are apparently not aware of that or they just don't care. You may raise a good crop of whatever or herd, it does not make you very good at sales. That is one of the biggest problems with some farmers - they may be good at what they do but it does not make them good sales/marketers. We take our produce to market and you see it all of the time. (Not everybody is like this) Some won't actually speak with their customers. I feel fortunate because my DH and I come with lots of customer service experience. As far as growing crops, there is basic elementary science, feed the dirt the right organic material and you plants become happy and grow. The only thing out of your control is the weather.
