The Old Folks Home

A vegetarian?!?! No thank you. I like my beef still practically mooing at me on the table. I feel you on the long way stuff tho. I was a Boston city gal till i met my husband, Now I walk around barefoot, play with chickens, wear overalls and say Ya'll.
So funny! My chickens would have pecked the crap out of me. They do not like swimming!
Isn't that the turtle man!!! EEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEHHHHHH! Or however he hollers.

Mom's tests were negative. Thank God! My oldest son said that they prayed for her last night at VBS.
That is awesome thank God!

Oh Arielle I am going down in about 17 days to see her. She lives in Florida I live in Arkansas, And I have already told my dad that I am on cooking duty. She is just eating Ensures and fruit right now. BUt I can convince her that their is better options. The kids have been picking and freezing blackberries for her. And I am bringing Avacado's for protein. Lots of Vitamin C to. Any other suggestion on stuff to easily slip her. She is not open to alot. She wont eat leafy dark greens.

I have been trying to figure out how to add leafy greens to my kids smoothies. THe greens would need to be a very mild flavor. Perhaps you mom will drink V8 juice-- many varieties now, some with fruit juice. Maybe the latter one is a bridge to more vegie type juices.

Is she taking a probiotic??

Her diet is lacking fiber too. THat is one to increase very slowly, and include the probiotic at the same time.

My mother used to put all bran into our banana smoothies-- takes some getting used to. I'm betting she is happy to take pills. FIber comes in pills. Probiotics come in pills.

I have seen TV ads for veg and fruit extracts in pill form. I'm not advocating them, just saying there is a possible alternative to investigate.

This is from a Dr on PBS.
GOMS-- all anti cancer and anti-oxidants
green leafy vegies--blender into spagetti sauce???
Onions
mushrooms
seeds and nuts

chocolate zuccini bread -- my son is repeating these words with a yearning to eat it ! Also hide the yellow squash in a vanilla version.

A study of women eating 10g of mushrooms a day had a 50% decreas in breast cancer rates. Only 10grams a day. Plain white mushrooms can be hidden too in stronger beef stocks, etc.

My son will eat stuffed muschooms but will not eat a piza with mushrooms. Tastes different to him. My point is if one recipe doesn't work, try another one.

I also don't tell my kids about some of the things I put in.

I also have aMIL that HATES onions, but eats them.

My oldest heard her say this and stopped eating onions right then and there. Took several years to get him eating them again. THink Scallions, chives, shallots, yellow onions, red onions, spanish onions and of course yellow onions. Perhaps she like stuffing? Great place to hide white onions with white bread.

OK I can't take it any more. SCG, I think you'll have to use my rat remedy. Pie pan, can of Coca Cola. Poor coke into pan, set in rat area. Done! Some people say it doesn't work, but it does. And fast! When my daughter bought her last house several years ago, it was the first of maybe 20 houses finished in a huge track. Mice were everywhere. I had her stick this stuff in her garage and it worked like crazy. The people across from her were freaking out because they were closer to water and rats were coming in, so I told her to let them know. After that the whole block used it and they never had a problem. Took almost 2 years for that track to be finished and she never saw another one.

THANKS A TON!!! She is one that won't take a pill that was not prescribed by a dr. So no luck on that. But I will be blending quite a few things to mix in the sauces and she wants my husbands taco's when we go down. That is easy to sneak stuff into. I got lucky with my kids they love veggies. THey dont like onions but will eat them. They love mushrooms on anything. Today for lunch they asked for squash LOL!

So I needed a laugh today and found a couple cute vids to share.

This one is not real funny but I kinda got a kick out of it. Never seen someone so big and tough afraid of something so cute and small.

Chickens..great news on your mom. I used to work for an Assistant Home Living Place. I love the elderly..ha..now I'm almost there.

Well, I remember them loving the pears on cottage cheese. You can smash a canned pear pretty easily. It tastes great on the cottage cheese.

They also loved the way I did the carrots. Also, canned, very soft, I would put butter and a little sugar in it. They loved it. Can use brown sugar.

For a sweet tooth..one of the easiest classics..Banana Pudding. With the Vanilla wafers. Let the wafers get soft. They loved that desert.

She doesn't like any greens..or just the leafy? Broccoli is a great vegetable out there. Cooked well, just the top part, smashed up a bit.

Eggs. :) What was her favorite way to eat them?

When my grandmother had cancer, and couldn't eat much, I remember the dr. telling her..if you can just eat a tsp. of Peanut Butter a day, that would be great protein for you.

Unfortunately my mom is not what is considered elderly. She will be 50 on August 23rd. It is not the fact that she can't eat it is that she won't. I love the Banana pudding tho. That is definitely a favorite. She will definitely eat eggs.
