The Old Folks Home

Where did you find that sign? Would be perfect as an Xmas gift.
Wonder if I should have some made and trade for some flowers.

You definately need some new flowers at your new place! I need to send you a "Sandi starter pack," lol...peonies, a couple daylilies, daffodils, sedums, iris...all would look gorgeous on your property, and in a few years you would have tons and be trying to give some away, too.

Still catchin up...I love my Peonies!

Think I may have a chicken with bumble foot. I am very weak stomached so the surgery I've read about is not an option. Is there something else I can do? She has a scab that is very swollen and red around it in between her toes. The scab looking part is on the top, not bottom of her foot. She is not limping at all right now.

Still catching up.

I just had to do two girls this year. Two RIR's that are practically joined at the hip, so of course, they had to have Bumble foot at the same time..surprised they didn't have it on the same feet..but one was on the right, and one was on the left. I was sooo scared the first time I treated one of my hens. When their head is covered, it is so impressive at how they just lay there, while you cut into the foot. One of my RIR's was worse..a lot of puss. They did well, and was all fixed up within a weeks time. Photos of the wrap up jobs.

This is before I found some vet wrap, but you get the picture.

I'm 75 posts behind, and you didn't even miss me.

My DH and I got our flu shots on Monday. Now, wondering about that shingles shot.

Of course we missed you, just thought you had a better offer from a different old folks home.

If you're older than 60 and not on any immunity-changing medications (read: steroids, biologic injection for Crohns/rheumatoid arthritis, etc) then I would think seriously about getting the zoster vaccine. You may still get shingles, but the outbreak will be less severe if you're vaccinated.

I'm still waiting for the pharmacist to call me that my FluMist Nasal is in. I'm a sissy when it comes to needles.

Two weeks from now will be the first anniversary of my good friend's son passing away at 7 years old. Today would have been his 8th birthday. He loved helping others and I am trying to get up the nerve to donate blood in his memory next week.

Does it matter whether you had chicken pox as a kid?

Have you done the nasal mist before? I don't like needles either, but not sure I would like the mist any better.

Sorry about the little boy, that is too sad for words. It just shouldn't happen. If you can't make yourself donate blood, maybe you can talk some friends into doing so.
