its hard to believe that just 150 miles from my home in the Philippines there are more than ten thousand dead from that devastating storm.

it had the force of a type 3 tornado but instead of being 1 mile across it was 300

the storm surge was like a tsunami, many stories high

how could a country with such limited resources prepare for such calamity

Oh how sad. My prayers go out to all the families involved. This is going to be a long recovery.
Thanks. I am donating and so surprised at the amount of stuff 25 dollars can buy. I am glad that from over in the USA we can help people around the world.

My new Santa; a gift from Maddy's godparents.

Anyone else getting emails that your post was quoted? I'm guessing BYC just did a new patch. Guess we should stop quoting.
Nope, and I quoted without realizing that duh quotes email....sorry in advance.

Where is Wisher?? Show ended yesterday . . . . hope she has lots of pictures!!!
Guess I missed something in my skimming, where is Wisher at?

Heard on an NPR station that the international community is better able to handle the aftermath of these events, and the medical services actually need to be trained in international medical issues to better serve in these kinds of crisises.

Wisher went to the Ohio Nationals.

Happy Veterens Day to all that serve(d) and their families too.

True that!

That beautiful Santa is available at Hallmark stores, you will pay through the nose. Gosh are they high! I saw that Santa about 3 weeks and looked at the price and just paled.. Of course I can't remember what it was but, I know it was HIGH. I had a coupon for $ 5. off any purchase $ 10 or higher - but, it was still untouchable to me.

BTW if you guys sign up for Hallmark email club, you get offers like that: $ 5. off $ 10. etc. . My first offer was $ 2. of any card. Well most of their cards are $ 3 and up so that was useful.

They also have special events like holiday savings where you get special deals if you buy the advertised products during that time. I expect many offers will be coming since Thanksgiving is late and shortens the days to Xmas.

Oz, when something like this hits, a bunch of charities pop up - some fleece donors, others are legit. Where would you suggest we donate (if we want) to make the biggest impact?

I am a member of the Lions Club. Along with our effort to eliminate blindness we have the Lions Club International Foundation that responds with funds for disaster relief. The local clubs apply for relief and provide relief to the local area. Quite often it is some of the first relief on site. I was reading today that the Cebu Lions were distributing food and assistance in the area. Other Lions Clubs will be doing the same thing.

I am a member of The Kabankalan City Host Lions Club in Southern Negros Occidental in the Philippines. We sent a contingent to the North of our island to distribute disaster relief.

In March we are doing a "chicken mission" to the Philippines. We will be performing vision screening and then giving education on sustainable backyard poultry. I will give away around 100 birds at that time.

Y'all need to join me
