The Old Folks Home

Oooo...babies!! Chicks are at least less contagious than human babies.

Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! I have not been on here for a while. I have been so crazy busy the last few months with some unfinished projects. It has been so hard keeping the water thawed out this week. It takes me twice as long to feed and water everyone in this icy weather. One of my Holland Lop Does had a litter of 6. She did not have enough milk to feed them all, so I dropper fed them 2 times a day in addition to their mothers milk. They are so tame that I can pose them for these silly pics.
I have missed a lot in the last few months. I will try to catch up on all the latest!

What a totally un-productive day here for me at HHPRanch.! It is cold, wet and rainy. And I have NO motivation. Zilch. Nada. Well, I did take the cat to the vet. Came home and tossed scratch to the chooks. Came inside and had my PBJ and soup. Trying to NOT go lie down and take a nap.

I heard the EE crowing out back when ah went to powder mah nose. Didn't see him anywhere though. Him and his little female, the game hen, put themselves back into their chicken tractor when they get bored free ranging. Or just miss their little home sweet home...I guess. My chickens seem to like their little coops and pens. When I let the big kids out to free range....they play for about an hour or 2...then beg to go back to the pen. Which is covered with bird netting. I think they just feel safer in it...versus out and about as hawk bait.

Hi Bunnymomma, it is nice to hear from you. Happy Thanksgiving to you also! Your babies are adorable

Cute bunnies. We were thinking about raising rabbits...till a neighbor had their timber cleared out behind us. That raised the temps considerably. No more shade. And it gets hot here in Sc where we are.

The weather here... if you don't like it, just wait a few hours, it'll change. We finished with the arctic wind/negative wind chill thankfully. This morning I went out at 0400 to feed/water everyone, took a shower, ate breakfast and went to leave for work and in those 2 hours we had gotten about a half an inch of totally unpredicted snow.

Normally it wouldn't be a big deal but I have practically bald tires on my car that my mechanic warned me to have swapped over to my studded snow tires before the snow flew. My appointment to do that is Saturday. And it wouldn't have been too big of a deal really except when I went around the corner today there were deer in the road. I braked, but the car decided it was going to go sideways into the guardrail and possibly over it into the ditch. So I decided to stop braking, correct the path and just hit the deer. I was incredibly lucky that the deer decided it didn't want to be roadkill and scooted out of the way just prior to me hitting it. I did not have to change my pants afterwards but I did need a renewal of deodorant. I told BF about it when he got to work and he was slightly disappointed. He said he would have called out to dress the deer and take it to the butcher. That's love.

Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! I have not been on here for a while.

Bunny, welcome back! Your babies are adorable. I forget, are they just pets or breeders... or something more sinister like dinner?

SCG glad to hear that you did not get hurt in the near collision.
Cynthia congratulations on the new babies.
BunnyMomma those baby bunnies are adorable and welcome back!
I have been pretty quiet lately mainly because I have been trying to finish up my last few classes to my degree and dealing with work issues. Hopefully things will now settle down some. Only six more classes after I am done with my current class and I will be able to finally take a break. Almost three years of constant classes except for a two week break around Christmas has me about burned out. July, just have to make it to July...:D
I got an early Christmas present from DH. He bought me the expensive camera body I have been drooling over for at least a year. Wish he had let me work with him some more about buying it (he told me he was getting it for me and I wanted to tell him when it was on the best sale) so I could have saved him some money but I love the camera. I am just waiting for some new lenses to come in to really play around with it. Hoping that comet Ison is going to put out a decent show after it rounds the sun in a few days to get some good pictures. I butchered one of the spring poults this weekend and was a bit disappointed at her weight. Only about 8 lbs. I might have to get some bigger heritage breeds from Porter's to add to my stock. I don't need 28 pounders but would like something a bit bigger than a large chicken ;)
