The Old Folks Home

My weekend activities are--

Shoveling!!! lol

Making more blankets for the horses-- makes me feel better.

Saturday evening we are going to a dinner-- 3 Eagle scout awards. This troop is very active and apparently has a high rate of Eagle scouts. Lots of overnight camping, cooking on a fire; hiking big mountains like MT Monadnock, and canoing the Saco in Maine and shooting rifles at summer camp ( I wish my son had NOT told me).

There is a bit. The Ten Day Forcast show:

jan 09 Few showers
Jan 11 Showers

Then it goes to P cloudy on the 12th.

December and January are our wettest months. Sometimes we can get a wet February or March, but After April the rain averages drop less than .25 inches per month.

Our Governor has already declared an Emergency and Farmers will get less than 25% of there water this year. Since California feeds the World with a lot of our Ag products, we can expect some price increases next year.
Hopefully you will get some rain alot of rain. But not so much for mud slides! I can recall one time in L. A. it rained for 6 weeks straight I think it was 1977? or close to it... lol
I know you don't need that much but Cali has always been unpredictable....

I did not shovel today, either, too cold.

How do you make horse blankets? I bet my goats would be appreciative of some blankets. They are very cold right now. The ducks are even shivering and have icicles on their feathers.

Right now they could probably hike ON the Saco River. I bet it's frozen.

Brisk is 75?

I hope they have long johns.

I've discovered that the temperature that it is outside currently is apparently below the freezing point for windshield wiper fluid.

I went out and took a few pictures for my parents (who were excited to get 2 inches of slush last night). This was my favorite one:

If we get any more snow I don't think we'll be able to see my street's sign.
I forgot how much snow could fall I guess.... I can recall Minnesota in the winter once it was 63 below "0"

. I hated putting on all the clothes because I still froze! I really don't miss all that...
So sorry you got it so bad SCG! Hopefully spring will come early

Our plans for the weekend? Give you a hint. Hubby just got back from town with a load of fresh gasoline for the generators just in case. Snow tonight then temps start to drop to waaaaaay below zero (set another record last night with -27F) by Monday supposed to hit -35 or so with -55 windchill. No time to take chances of being caught if the power goes out. Snuggling in to watch the Packers play on sunday. Should be fun to see how the west coast team handles the projected to be at least -5 F at kick off with maybe -15 by the end and that's before you figure in the wind coming in off the bay! FROZEN TUNDRA GAME :D

TRIED THE SPRING DANCE THING BUT REALLY HARD TO DO IN SNOWMOBILE BOOTS or maybe that was just me trying to stay warm

Stay warm. Our window heat pump unit in the bedroom, froze up last night. Now we are down to using the fake fireplace for heat, and one little floor heater. Very safely of course. The chickens ..will just have to cuddle up to stay warm. It is supposed to get down to 26F tonight, and 15F on Monday night. I brought the one BR cockerel inside. He doesn't have his snuggle buddy at the moment, as she is molting bad. I put her back in the big coop. She is half naked at the moment. So she could use the extra warmth.

Never did find that dead squirrel body.

I started driving in 1976. 1977 was the first year with normal rain after that drought.

Boy did I learn a lesson about the Pacific Storms we get here the first time I drove in one of those! It was very scary and I had been driving for a year and a half by then....
