I put them in it during the day. I have a cardboard box inside it with a flap cut for access. At dark, they go into the cardboard box, I shut the flap, and carry them into the garage. In the morning, I put the box back in the ground-run and open the flap. It works well as long as the weather is mild during the day and cold at night.

I like it! Would not work here with cardboard due to wind, but I like the concept very much!

I've been hand shoveling for 3 days... My back has had enough

You need a snow scoop.

No lifting necessary. Push it along the ground to pick up snow, then drive it up and over the snowbank and flip. Rinse and repeat as needed.

It is slightly hard on the arms and abs to push it over, but really, not bad once you get the hang of it.

Got my first sewing project done... hope she likes wiener dogs fabric.

Quote: Me, too!! I'd be in heaven eating this food!!

Fortunately our markets have increase the produce they carry-- now just to find recipes I understand. TOo often if one ingredinet is unknown to me I cont to a complete stand still and can't make the dish. Very frustrating as I love to cook good food.

Quote: For some reason my chest muscles tightened up after all the hours of shoveling and snowblowing . . .had to use the stretches the PT showed me.

I have a bunch of pictures of my breeder complex. I'll try to get them loaded if I have time later. It's 5 units shaped like a hexagon with a breezeway down the middle. On one side is 2 units for pairs and one for a trio. The other side is 2 units for a rooster and up to 5 hens. From the breezeway I can access all the nests, roosts, bulk feeders and auto water. Chickens have been living in there for 18 months and it's not complete yet. Still don't have gutter finished nor the automatic doors. Plan is for 2 auto doors on each unit so I can choose which pen they go into. That way I can rotate pastures.
I would love to see your breeder complex! Thanks Chicken Canoe! I really need some ideas for this year. I need two or three turkey pens and the others for chickens.

Ron good luck on your hatch! Is there any way I could beg you to take pics of your small breeding pens for me to see? I have a diagram drawn up for my pens but it is actually a rectangle sectioned off into 5 pens and 2 grow out pens that could be used for babies or broodies. But I am not sure of how to cover the runs with putting welded wire over the top of the pens to keep predators out! That is the problem we are trying to figure out.
Love the Casserole recipe, thanks for sharing.

Thank You!

I will get pictures for you. They are just Ware hutches with a run I added.

Really? A thunder storm here in Feb? Along with micro burst of wind. I couldn't believe what I was hearing out there all of a sudden. Wind first, then the thunder. Looked outside, grabbed my camera and snatched this photo from my front porch. We don't do this in Feb. We do this in spring and some summer months.
