The one pipped egg hatched overnight as expected. More are still rocking around so hopefully we will see more. I suspect we will have to go a little longer with these since we do not know how long the electric was off during the storm. If it takes loss of electricity to get the little cuties to hatch, so be it. I have a picture but it is really bad....DH is not really good at taking them.

I would ask Math Ace-- she tried many sources before going to one of the top breeders for SS Can't remember if OBerton ro Reich___. THe color and shape were the best but the size was lacking for a meat bird in her opinion. Tell her I sent you. :)

You can also ask Snowbird( aka Don)-- he helps as an advisor on the SS thread.

As you know for many heritage birds what they are supposed to be and what they are can be poles apart.

Mine have too much white on them but the personalities are tops and the speckles are delightful. Like a lady dressed for an evenng out IMO. Personality and foraging abilites is why I don't dump this line.

YOu maybe gtting a very good line-- so dont' cancel your order. You will love them no matter what.
Thanks Arielle, I do think they are pretty birds. I was trying to add some variety and color in my flock this year. I really got tired of all black last year. I just joined the Sussex group on Facebook it was linked on the American Sussex page. The president is the Admin. on it. So if I like the birds enough and want better quality next year I may get some from him or some that you have suggested.
Really they will be meat and egg birds. I will have a mix of hatchery and heritage birds.

I hope your pretties make it through. you are so full of fun and energy I can see why you are successful up there!

Thanks for the well wishes. They all did just fine...it really counts and tallies up your duty of care to them...they never asked to be owned and the cold makes sure and tests your abilities...done good I say.

Dancing turkey toms...

One of the pens with some of the bantam ducks munching on greens...

The pair of Ruddy Shels...

Aussie Black Swan girl Pearl chatting up with her neighbour cob Piper. Giving me the l00k..."Well, you brought the romaine, you can leave now..."

This is pen Ember...she is completely at easy and happy. Got her greens...she's good!

The only one a tad ruffled is me when I went back out and thought I could do a few hours more since everything was done up and I usually mix feed for the week on Saturdays. One hour was my limit and even then I over stayed my welcome outside and had to come back in for a warm up.

Was a good day considering it is the coldest so far for this winter season at -40.

The Paper said the funnel Cloud was very close to me--about a mile East. Luckily it did not touch down.

My son's first job was after school and weekends at the local small town grocery store. He calls me one Saturday and says, "Mom, I want you to stay where you are," and I think..."OK??" "Mom," he says, "there is a tornado in town right now threatening to touch down...I will call you when this is all over!" EEK...and he was right, it touched down, but only took out a hay shed on the outskirts of town. I laughed because he was perfectly correct in thinking, "Gotta make sure she don't jump in a vehicle and race to town to SAVE me..." Kids know us so well, eh?

Very scary tornadoes and so happy you never had any damage or life loss.

Today's paper said the Tornado touched down in a rice field and traveled just a bit. No Damage and was a very low power Tornado.

It is a good thing too since our houses are built for Earth Quakes, not Tornadoes.

I'm one of the younger ones, we have several in the 90's and had a few 100's as well. I have to say the older ones were mentally sharper than the younger. Maybe because they didn't have high fruitcose and trans fats and whatever in their formative years.
And they had 3 square home cooked meals every day. Makes a difference.

And most of ours aren't built for earthquakes even though we're overdue for the big one.
