The Old Folks Home

what a scary story - too many people are unnoticed.  She was very lucky to have neighbors like you and your husband.

I find myself thinking before I do things now - I'm impulsive.  I used to love shoveling snow in the middle of the night because it was so peaceful.  Now  I don't.  If I fall or have a cardiac episode or ??
none of the neighbors would even notice.  WE only have a couple of street lights, far apart  so it's dark as pitch in most places.

You are right about the fact that old people shouldn't run.  Every time the stoplight changed with me in the middle I've run - the drivers will not yield- and when I reach the other side, I have fallen 3 times - the sudden running makes me dizzy.   If I fell in the street - everybody on their cell phones would leave tire marks on my mangled body.

Now I am the oldie who waits at the corner forever. I won't cross unless the light' just changes' as I approach.  I can't start any later or I'll never make it across  6 lanes of traffic. Pedestrians get NO Respect.    Plus I think they get more points if they bag a senior. :th

You get the most points if you bag a Jay Walker talking on a cell phone paying no attention.

Oz- I thought that first picture- "Charcoal roasted oriental egg plants then dipped in egg and then pan fried in olive oil"...was some sort of bird, flattened out and batter fried.

There is just no telling what one might find on their plate in the Orient

Hello everyone! I was invited over by my new friend, Wisher1000, and I'm so new to chickens, that I don't even have them yet, lol! I'm getting a dozen baby chicks in a couple of weeks from Wisher, I can't wait! I'm from McCalla Alabama, outside of Birmingham, out in the woods. My boyfriend and I, well mostly him, built a pretty nice chick brooder this weekend and now I'm ready to go! I'm quite excited :-D

Welcome the BYC. I grew up in Alabama where several generations of my ancestors have lived. I have several neices and nephews that have lived around that area of Birmingham for about 40 years.

If y'all do this, please post it and the results on The Great Egg Shipping Experiment. I am very interested in the results!

I plan on posting anything I ship on The Great Egg Shipping Experiment. I will definitely post this incubating for a day experiment there.

Thanks!

I, too, am very interested in this experiment!

Linda, you are a born tease!

Tara - the fruit cocktail cake is in the oven as I type. Thanks what an easy recipe. My team will love it. That being said, Airelle you are absolutely right about the sugar and carbs. We need complex carbs, not the refined one. When I was being good, I use to "Eat Clean" which eliminated refined sugars and you cooked from scratch. We eat so many process foods today. I am not innocent in this...fast easy...in a rush. My grandmother lived until she was 94 and her mother was 96. Most of her siblings made it to 90 or 91, with a few exceptions. Her family was self sustaining, raising their own plants and animals for food. They raised, butchered and smoked their meats, canned their fruits and vegetables. She cooked regularly with lard. She ate eggs and bacon and everything else. She also cooked from scratch using whole/slow foods. She only had arthritis in her shoulder because she fell on it walking across wet grass when she was in her 70's.

I do like the slow way as it is really easy. A chicken stright into the oven. potatos into the microwave and a salad. My tweens can do this. THough my youngest is a budding chef. lol We acquired smoker after helpipng clean up the local VFW-- an unexpected surprize, as the plan was to just throw it away. My plan is to expand the gardent his year, but that area is also shared with the chickens, and they are sure to enjoy everything before I get it. Everyday is a struggle to eat clean. I certainly did not today-- a sheet cake! Had a long talk with the kids about no more of this . . . .my mother developed cancer some 20 years older in age than her mother. I try to understand why, what factors played into one gettting the disease state in her 50's and the other in her 70's and I think it is diet. My mother eats a lot of vegies and herbs; lots of fresh foods too.

Staying clean takes effort as all the standard american diet foods surround us. Working toward cleaner meats, and more vegies and fruits grown here on the farm. A slow process. lol
