I now have 8 that are crowing. It is time to thin the flock.

I'm sad my hatching didn't work out much this year so I don't have much to thin. I have one, maybe two, roosters to process.

Hopefully we get a deer or some other meat this fall or It will be slim pickins in the freezer this year. Our deer and roosters from last fall are dwindling quickly.

Me two.... I will have more than two roosters to eat.... But I keep loosing chicks to various things. Two days back we broke a cockerels leg while moving the tractor.

I am processing two today and a older Rooster tomorrow. Next it is time to process a couple of old hens.

I have four or so coming up and will be hatching at least one more time this year.

Are there seeds coated with Nicaloids in your area? Are all your plants grown from seeds free of it?

Birds lose fertility when exposed to even little bits of it.

@Bunnylady you are right.... If I had more kids that would tire me out and keep me out of trouble... But then do you realize just HOW old I would be before they finally left? (And don't forget those extra expensive college years) As it is, I have FOURTEEN more years before the last one is out of the house.... But he won't be done with school..

My daughter moved back in just before her trip to Asia. She just signed an apartment lease yesterday and she's moving September 1st.
My son's moving back in August 1st. He starts his last 2 years of college (for his bachelors) next month in an actuarial science program at Maryville U. His plan is to get a paid internship by next May. He said he doesn't want to have to cook for a living after that. Now that I'm poor I can't help much with college. I'm covering his books and some of his gas and incidentals. He has a few good scholarships, thankfully. He's also planning on getting a masters and doctorate in AS. We shall see. People who are that good at math scare me. Especially when they're my offspring.

My brother is very good at math, used to teach Calculus, etc. scares me too! I hate math!! It's all I can do to count out change in the store. Of course it holds up the whole line when I do and I get lots of hateful mutterings. TOO BAD, I'm old and I earned it.

Ron can you post pics of the one you made to give us an idea. I know you need to stop the air sac from filling full of air to stop or muffle the crow. Right?

It might do that too, but it also keeps him from fully extending the neck so that the crow is not as forceful.

It does not work with my Pita Pinta. The one I am using is in a roo. I will work on getting a picture. I might have one somewhere. If you make one, do not glue it together first. The glue from a glue gun will clog up the sewing machine needle.

They do not fall apart, yes, but do they work?    A lot of money for one rooster

Good to know...   I can't keep roosters unless I have something.  And I wan't to have Basque.

The collars are:

6 strips of velcro, 4 to 11.5 inches long depending the size of the rooster.

Use cloth Material that is breathable or good netting. Experiment and it is about two inches.

Sew the strips to the material, do not glue it.

Velcro is not cheap from walmart. After some practice, it would be cheaper to get the velcro online somewhere.

No one has really explained exactly how it works.

It looks to me like the put them into a short cage at night method. If the Rooster cannot completely arch the neck back, he cannot fully crow.

It cannot be a muffling thing because the sound comes out of the mouth. It might be stopping the "crow" box from fully filling.

It makes all of them quieter and cuts off the crow sound. They sound funny when crowing. They also crow less somewhat.

the one I ordered from MPC is working like a charm.
