The Old Folks Home

I just put down a sheet of baking paper under the roosts. In a few hours, we shall go and collect it, gather the poop in a bag, and tomorrow Karin will take it to the municipal laboratory for Salmonella testing. After we (hopefully) get the negative result, we can legally give or sell eggs to others.

I choose to feed fermented feed. I think it benefits my birds as well as meat and eggs. I gave my best friend a flock from my flock and she chooses to feed dry. She feeds good feed and it works for her. Her little flock suits her families needs. I believe each to his own. There are lots of ways to have a healthy chicken. Heck I know kids who have grown up on fast food and still graduated from college!

BTW I have some hatchery quality silver laced wyandottes that are prettier than my chicken friends breeder birds from a show person. I don't think its the norm but it does happen.

I hear ya! I wanted some pretty eggs and wound up with 5 cockerels and 1 ee pullet. I guess I will try again this spring. lol
You are looking for blue eggs?

Crested cream legbars
arkansas blues
aracauna

Hopefully next spring I will be able to help with Arkansas Blues.

Can they test for cocci and worms too?
